Tagged: widgetize child theme
I've bought and installed genesis framework and created a sample child theme. I've now installed the genesis slider and wanted to position it in the main content area under the menu bar on the home page. Trouble is, I've only got the option of positioning the slider widget in the sidebar or right of header. As the position I want is the 'norm' for a slider, I'm surprised that genesis doesn't allow you to do this! I'm fairly new to wordpress so I could be missing something obvious but I'm really struggling! Can someone help me please!!
Genesis is a Framework so you have to build in the features you want. They don't come out the box especially building your own child theme. Here is some suggested reading.
1. Tutorials - http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/
2. To add the widgetized area for your slider you would need to register a new sidebar for that area - http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/register-widget-area/.
A quick way to do it is to use Brian Gardner's instructions on adding a Welcome Widget which would give you a widgetized area to add your slider - http://www.briangardner.com/welcome-text-widget/.
