I feel kind of stupid here, but we all have those days. I wanted to start working on a grid design for my blog page... put together some code, dropped it in archive.php and... NOTHING. It is like WordPress is ignoring archive.php. What incredibly simple thing am I missing here?
November 18, 2015 at 1:45 am #171393Victor FontModeratorAre you aware that Genesis has a built-in grid loop? https://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/genesis-grid-loop/.
The default archive template is named page-archive.php, not archive.php. Since it is a template, you have to assign it to a page.

In that same tutorial it mentions home.php or front-page.php. Since it is a separate page, I have tried archive.php, page-archive.php even page-journal since that is the slug. Nadda. I'm using the minimum-pro theme.
I'm sure I'm missing something very simple. Thank you for your response.
November 18, 2015 at 12:24 pm #171439Victor FontModeratorMinimum Pro's front-page.php is already setup to use the genesis grid loop. If you open the page, you'll see the grid loop code at line 89:
//* Genesis grid loop function minimum_grid_loop_helper() { if ( function_exists( 'genesis_grid_loop' ) ) { genesis_grid_loop( array( 'features' => 0, 'feature_image_size' => 0, 'feature_content_limit' => 0, 'grid_image_size' => 0, 'grid_content_limit' => 250, 'more' => __( '[Read more]', 'minimum' ), ) ); } else { genesis_standard_loop(); } }
All you should have to do is configure it to display the details you want. Hope this helps.

I'm looking to create a new page called /journal that also has a grid loop. This page should be a grid that allows for 3 or 4 columns, different meta, and a more bloggy or portfolio feel. What should this page be called? According to the WordPress file type hierarchy, I believe it should be archive.php. Well, this is what I have used with other templates.
November 18, 2015 at 1:47 pm #171456Victor FontModeratorWhy don't you post the code for archive.php so we can see what's going on?

Is this because front-page.php appears to take priority over any archive pages? Based on the WordPress file type hierarchy.

https://samurai.io - This is the front-page... no changes required.
https://samurai.io/journal - this is the blog that I want to have a grid.So, how and where do I create a template for the blog page?
