New members are unable to register from the home page of http://ihost-websites.com/EM/
even though I’ve enabled “anyone can register”. When I deactivate the buddypress plugin
    registration for anyone works.

    What am I missing?

    According to http://codex.buddypress.org/user/before-installing/
BuddyPress does not work on installations where you give WordPress its own directory.

Does that mean it has to be installed in the root directory for the plugin to work correctly?

I don’t think you have all the pages, etc., linked in there correctly. I’ve done a few Buddypress installs and never had this problem. Did you create the Register/Sign Up pages? There are settings in there where you need to create the pages. If you need more help, I can help you offline. Send a message on my website via the contact box.

    Message sent..thanks
