Hi,
I'm curious to see what you guys use to help manage workflow when building, hosting and maintaining WordPress Websites. I'm looking for a way to simplify so I don't miss anything when setting up a WordPress/Genesis Website.

As a website designer, does this mean that you will only provide services to a republican? Making a statement as bold as "republican websites" would probably deter some people from contracting you for non-political websites. For me personally, as a web developer - what political party they belong to really isn't my business, it's about making great websites for anyone that comes to me. That's a part of my work flow process - that's the first step - being able to identify who my client is and what deliverable they want from me.

And the heading reads "Political Campaign Websites", with the word republican in the context of the paragraph by the way. And I did this as a way to be inclusive of Republicans and not to exclude of anyone else. Besides the republicans I know mostly think websites are a waste of money, so I wanted a post or two on my site catering to this crowd.
And right now where I live there's quite a buzz happening and word has it that all our counties here in Ga will be looking to get websites.
So did this really effect my workflow? Anybody have ideas they use to make their work flow more smoothly?
I guess when I say workflow, I should be a little more accurate. I mean like a checklist or something that you run down, (from install to live site) so you don't forget stuff like, oh maybe the security keys or so I don't forget to delete the install file etc).
And political party matters not to me either....until they are looking to actually build a party website. Thanks for the input.
May 6, 2013 at 7:38 am #39521AnitaKeymasterI was trying to provide some feedback as your workflow should include your website and how potential clients will view you as a developer - that's how I was looking at it. Workflow is not just a process.... it is how your business operates as a whole. I am sorry if you feel insulted by what I wrote - it wasn't intended that way. If you look at other web developer websites, and mine will include that as this is a new "brand" for myself (ending a website after 5 years) - they clearly outline who they are and what they do, along with "next steps," but it's still a part of their website and their branding.
But now after your response, yes.. it would have been nice if you had been a little more specific in what you were really wanting us to share with you.

I'm okay with this type of feedback. Thats why I responded as I did. I want to be successful so feedback is important. Thank you for that.
If you have time I would love a checklist of corrections, and "to-do's" for my site specifically. I will get right on it, making corrections you feel my improve my brand. For that particular "political" post I was hoping to get visitors who used those terms to search for a provider.
I'm fine and my feelings aren't hurt at all. I just thought a little more explanation might help is all.

Set up your Genesis SEO under the Genesis tab. Then for each page and post, you can add n additional keywords.

May 6, 2013 at 11:05 pm #39659essaysnarkParticipantHey rstyner - Our web host supports a nice workflow for us in terms of having a production site and a staging site, with the ability to easily make snapshots from one to the other. So an admittedly very basic process we've got is we create a backup, then push a snapshot of production to staging, then do whatever testing and tweaking we need to there, then port the finalized changes back to production. We create backups all the time now as restore points, in case something goes sideways. We also store at least one backup a week offsite at Amazon S3.
For the staging site, not only is it turned off to web crawlers, but we also implement the Members plugin and make the site Private with their options (you must log in before you can view anything). And, we do a search-and-replace using a script we have to change all of our users' email addresses, so that we don't inadvertently trigger emails to our customers through the system testing.
While we've always been good about keeping plugins and themes up to date, we've also now started a process of carefully documenting when we update each one, so that we can try to trace back any weird behavior that's detected much later (it seems like we only notice something went screwy after it's been live for a couple weeks).
We don't do the type of structured testing that we should when plugins get updated; that lackadaisical attitude may change soon though based on some pain we've suffered through recently!
Great questions. Would be interested to see what others have to offer on this subject too.
