I would like to have one image show when the page is wide enough to have three columns, and change the header to a different image when the page is narrow enough for the menu to be at the top of the page. And ideally, the header image would resize accordingly, but that may be too much to ask.
    Any thoughts?

You can use conditional tags to display a different header based on which layout is loaded.

Or you can use a responsive theme which resize’s for different devices.

Thanks. But I specified that I am already using the Sixteen Nine theme.

I found in the functions.php file where it is set, and I found the various parts of the CSS, but I think it is too beyond my abilities. Any more ideas/tips?

I would love help on this topic also. On a phone or small device my logo is too large.
