When I am in Menus, and “Show advanced menu properties” I have “CSS Classes” checked, but “CSS classes (optional)” is not appearing in the custom link area.

Can you define the “custom link area”.  The CSS Classes show up when you expand the menu item in the menu editor.  It won’t show up on any of the boxes to the left.  Can you provide a screenshot of your menus admin?

It is not showing up in the menu editor-

Not sure how to include a screenshot, so  here is a link to a screenshot - http://www.beautyinstrengthfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Menus-%E2%80%B9-Beauty-in-Strength-Fitness-LLC.-%E2%80%94-WordPress.png

To change the class, you have to click on the link in the editor.  In your screenshot I see two links. Home & About.  Can you click on either one of those to expand them?  That’s typically where the CSS option is.  It’s set at each menu item, not at the menu as a whole.
