I'm using the beautiful Lifestyle theme. This may be a totally crazy question, but is there anyway to customize which color style shows up depending on the category of a post? This would be so awesome to be able to distinguish each of my categories on the site with a different color.
My site is under construction so there is nothing there at the moment. Thanks in advance for your insight!

Lynne emasai.comApril 18, 2014 at 4:40 pm #101227sinounMemberThanks for the response, but this doesn't really answer my question. The color style is set within the Genesis theme so I'm really not sure how to incorporate the changes. Just to clarify, I mean the color style in this section: Genesis > Theme Settings. Do you have any insight on how to achieve this?
Thanks to anyone that can help!
SinounApril 19, 2014 at 3:08 am #101255jennyMemberI think there is no way to customize color style shows up depending on the category of a post. Because it is default of theme
April 19, 2014 at 8:47 am #101272emasaiParticipantThere is always a way, but if you do not know css you will not be able to do it. It tells you how to do it in the last post.
"If you look at the source code for one of your categories, such as Desserts, in the body tag you will see one of the classes is the category ID such as:
category-10
What you will want to do to set colors for whatever element, would be to precede the main selector with the category ID class such as this and then edit the hex color code as you desire:
.category-10 #content .entry-title {
color: #1C204D;
}
This should affect the colors of the post titles ONLY on the categories page."

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH! I'm a beginner in CSS so it is so much easier to see the solution when you pointed it out the way you did. I really appreciate it! I'm able to do exactly what I needed to do by finding the elements in Firebug! You're awesome! 🙂

Lynne emasai.comApril 19, 2014 at 9:16 am #101280sinounMemberI have one more question. I'm able to change everything I see when I'm in the archive page for the category, but when I click on an individual post within the category, the color goes back to the default. What am I missing here? Do I need to post the colors for EACH post as well? How do I do that if it calls for the same code?
Thanks again for your time!
SinounApril 19, 2014 at 9:26 am #101282emasaiParticipantThe selector on the individual post might have a different tag, so you will have to add that in to the css to change the color. I can't see your site.

Lynne emasai.comApril 19, 2014 at 9:38 am #101285sinounMemberHmm... I'm kinda stuck. I made the site live. Can you take a look? It seems the individual posts for each category goes to the default. I think I'm missing something.

Lynne emasai.comApril 19, 2014 at 9:50 am #101290sinounMemberThanks, Lynne! I appreciate your time so much.
I did a little more experimenting and found if I did what I did but for individual posts like .postid-9 -- the color changes to what I need. I guess I could do this, but it means I just have to do it for every single post. I hope there's a better, more efficient way.

April 19, 2014 at 10:23 am #101295emasaiParticipantOK I see what you are trying to do. You could add a custom body or custom post class when you write your post and use that selector in your css to change the colors. You will find that just below the post in Layout Settings, if you don't see Layout Settings, go to Screen Options at the top and check the box.
