A few days ago I installed Genesis Framework and then activated it.
Then I installed Dynamic Website Builder as my child to Genesis Framework and activated it.
I subsequently listened to a video intro Genesis Framework on bloggingwithamy.com. Amy said that for the parent / child installation process, Genesis Framework should be installed but NOT activated; only the child theme should be installed and activated.
Is there a problem with the way I did things? If so, should I deactivate both parent and child and then re-activate the child only?
July 29, 2013 at 3:55 pm #53112RobGMemberIs there sometime wrong with your themes?

It doesn't matter if you activated Genesis (it's just second nature for me to activate it...) You just need to make sure that you have Genesis installed before you can install and activate a child theme, so you did nothing wrong.
July 29, 2013 at 5:36 pm #53124AnitaKeymasterI don't think the Dynamik Website Builder is a theme. You need a child theme or one of the Dynamik Skins. Genesis Framework is only the framework. You either need the Free Sample Child Theme, purchase a premium child theme or one of the other skins.

July 29, 2013 at 6:00 pm #53131Richard_SMemberI appreciate everyone's quick responses. This is my first foray into StudioPress's software and forums, and I'm greatly heartened by the activity here. That said, Susan's comments above are the one's I had been most hoping to here, inasmuch as there don't seem to be any problems with my installation, it's just that blogger Amy's comments had me worried.
anitac: Dynamic Website Builder is a child theme for Genesis Framework, but it's from a different vendor than StudioPress, which is probably why you weren't familiar with it. (I'm still trying to figure out whether to stay with it, or go with Studio Press's "Prose" child theme instead!)
Thanks again, everybody!
Resolved!

When you stop to think about it, that makes perfect sense. Only one theme can be active at a time. If you activate a theme, any prior theme still activated will be deactivated. The reason developers are told to install but not activate GF is to avoid the developers mistakenly making modifying GF as though it were a full-fledged theme and thereby losing the modifications when there is a subsequent version update of GF.
Even though I mistakenly activated GF, I knew enough not to modify it but to instead wait until I had installed a proper child theme.
