I am debating between the Lifestyle and Mindstream for a new travel blog. Does the lifestyle theme have a gallery feature?

WordPress offers an excellent gallery function built into the core.
You can also add a plugin like Jetpack which includes a carousel module for displaying gallery images.

How do I access the gallery function?May 12, 2013 at 6:48 am #40553
1. Go to Posts or Pages
2. Click Add Media
3. Click Create Gallery
4. Upload images to your gallery or add images to your gallery from your media library.
5. Click Create New Gallery
6. Click Insert Gallery

Hi, Is there much of a difference between the basic gallery feature and the Jetpack Carousel? Is it possible to click on an image in the slide show and go to the actual post or page? Thanks, NancyMay 27, 2013 at 8:33 pm #42854
The carousel displays the thumbnail images differently. You’ll need to install it to see the difference
There’s a plugin you can install to link images to custom url’s. http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-gallery-custom-links/screenshots/

I installed the Carousel but the only difference I notice is the option b/w black or white for the background color. If I click on an image in the slide show it does not take me to the actual post where the larger image and further information is. Is this what you mean by installing the extra custom link plugin you mentioned ? I have set up another page in the Portfolio page layout. I like how you can click on the thumbnail to go to the actual post but so far I haven’t figured out a way to also have a slide show on the portfolio layout. Is it possible to have both?
Sorry if this is long and confusing.
Thanks again, NancyMay 28, 2013 at 9:38 am #42922
The plugin will enable you to link gallery thumbnail images anywhere you want. Not sure if they are clickable once you enable the Carousel. If not, don’t use it.

Wow! Thanks again. It seems like I just needed to activate:
Show photo metadata (Exif) in carousel, when available.
Now there is access to the larger image. I just had no idea what “Exif” was and am happy it’s working without adding extra plugins.
I’m sure this will lead to more questions.May 28, 2013 at 2:13 pm #42945
Is there a way to have 4 columns of thumbnails on a gallery page rater than 3?
Thanks, NancyMay 28, 2013 at 6:41 pm #42988
Use the settings when you insert the gallery. You can choose how many columns.
