I have been trying to do a couple of updates to my site and ran into an issue with the Dynamic Content Gallery.
Site: fkthreads.com
Theme: Using the Platinum theme. What i want to do is increase the size of the image gallery to cover the whole top part of the site. i increased the Gallery width and height to ~900x400 in the plugin options. However when i reloaded the homepage the images overlapped to the sidebar where i have the instagram plugin and twitter plugin.
Whats the best way to get the image gallery across the top of the home page, and have the instagram and twitter plugins shifted down??
I'm open to using other plugins.
Thanks
Rick

Home page only or site wide?
before the header
in the header
after the headerIs it a gallery of thumbnail images?
Can you link to it please?
August 6, 2013 at 10:53 am #54396rick_fkMemberHi Brad,
I'm attaching a screenshot of what happens when i increase the size to 900X400 in the Dynamic Content Gallery Settings in the Dashboard. There is a Gallery width and height setting in the Gallery CSS tab.
As you can see the gallery width and height increased but the "Featured Stories" area didn't increase with it. It also is overlapping to the sidebar section where i have the instagram and twitter plug ins.
To answer your questions.
I want it be how it is displayed in the screen shot. Except I just want to shift the Instagram and Twitter sidebar plugins below it. Ideally those plugins will be aligned with the "Fatkid Times" area.Homepage only.
It will be the same images you see there currently just with the size increased. They usually link to a post i created that directs them to the item in the shop.
Edit: i couldn't find where i could upload a screenshot image so i uploaded it to TinyPic.

August 6, 2013 at 12:03 pm #54423Brad DaltonParticipantYou can create a new custom widget area or hook in the gallery to the before_content_sidebar_wrap hook using a conditional tag for the home page.
Problem solved.
Which solution do you want to try?
How did you insert it in your page? Shortcode?
August 6, 2013 at 12:18 pm #54427Brad DaltonParticipantAugust 6, 2013 at 12:28 pm #54433rick_fkMemberI thought i had the DCG in my Homepage widget but it looks to be in my home.php. I'm guessing this was automatically done since this is one of the older retired themes??
I'm still new to hooks and widgets but i'll try the code you provided. Where would i put the code in??
Below is my home.php.
<?php get_header(); ?> <?php genesis_before_content_sidebar_wrap(); ?> <div id="content-sidebar-wrap"> <?php genesis_before_content(); ?> <div id="content" class="hfeed"> <?php // checks to see if the Dynamic Content Gallery plguin is enabled - if it isn't, nothing will diplay ?> <?php if (function_exists('dynamic_content_gallery')) : ?> <div id="dynamic-content-gallery"> <div class="widget"> <h4><?php _e("Featured Stories", 'genesis'); ?></h4> <div class="wrap"> <?php dynamic_content_gallery(); ?> </div><!-- end .wrap --> </div><!-- end .widget --> </div><!-- end #dynamic-content-gallery --> <?php endif; ?> <div id="featured-home"> <?php if (!dynamic_sidebar('Homepage')) : ?> <div class="widget"> <h4><?php _e("Homepage", 'genesis'); ?></h4> <div class="wrap"> <p><?php _e("This is a widgeted area which is called Homepage. It is using the Genesis - Featured Posts widget to display what you see on the Platinum child theme demo site. To get started, log into your WordPress dashboard, and then go to the Appearance > Widgets screen. There you can drag the Genesis - Featured Posts widget into the Homepage widget area on the right hand side. To get the image to display, simply upload an image through the media uploader on the edit page screen and publish your page. The Featured Posts widget will know to display the post image as long as you select that option in the widget interface.", 'genesis'); ?></p> </div><!-- end .wrap --> </div><!-- end .widget --> <?php endif; ?> </div><!-- end #featured-home --> </div><!-- end #content --> <?php genesis_after_content(); ?> </div><!-- end #content-sidebar-wrap --> <?php genesis_after_content_sidebar_wrap(); ?> <?php get_footer(); ?>
Thanks again

August 6, 2013 at 12:34 pm #54436Brad DaltonParticipantMaybe you should update your theme and use the DCG plugin with my code instead.
Genesis 2.0 now supports HTML 5 for child themes.
If you want to edit the home page template code, you can move all the code for the gallery to see how it outputs.
Here's the code for the home.php file minus the DCG code:

August 6, 2013 at 12:49 pm #54438Brad DaltonParticipantJust tested this method and its the best way to go.
Make sure you activate the plugin first otherwise you'll get an error. Means the plugin isn't coded properly but works fine of you activate the plugin before adding the code.
August 6, 2013 at 12:55 pm #54439rick_fkMemberOk i was a little worried about updating with the retired Platinum child theme but if you believe that is the best way to go then i'm willing to try it out.
I'm on wordpress 3.5.1 should i update to 3.6 first??
Also where do i update to 2.0 i'm on Genesis 1.9.2 and Platinum 1.0.1I don't see the 2.0 update in my dashboard.
Thanks again
Rick
August 6, 2013 at 1:04 pm #54440Brad DaltonParticipantIts not officially released yet but should be within hours or days.
I would test it out locally first.
Have you changed any of the themes code?
Anyway, the solution works if you:
1. Use the new home.php file code above
2. Install and activate the DCG plugin
3. Add the code snippet to your child themes functions.php file
August 6, 2013 at 1:52 pm #54445rick_fkMemberBrad,
Thanks again for all the help and very quick replies. Now i'm a little worried about updating to the 2.0 Beta as i only work on the production site. Don't know how much more work would entail testing out locally.
I just made a new install of wordpress and genesis within the last couple of month since I transferred web-hosts to bluehost. I don't remember making any changes to the theme code. I think i had to add a line or two for the jet pack, woo commerce items to work. But thats about it.
Apologies for more requests but is there an alternative without updating to 2.0 just yet?
August 6, 2013 at 11:47 pm #54503Brad DaltonParticipantNo need to if you don't want. Or you can update to Genesis 2.0 RC 2 without adding HTML 5 support to your child themes and converting the CSS to the new markup.
August 7, 2013 at 12:22 am #54505rick_fkMemberSo what would be the alternative? Still a little confused. At the moment i'm a shy away from updating since i have other plugins that might be affected.
I did a little youtube research and noticed that on some examples there is a "Home - Top", "Home - Right" Widgets. I only have a "Homepage" Widget are these the ones you were referring to that can be created?
I'm guessing if i somehow figure out how to create the Home Top Widget then i can drag DCG there and make it kind of like the "content before sidebar" hook you were referring to before?
Then on the other "HomePage" Widget i can have the "Featured Widget Amplified" ( for the blog). Then put the twitter and instagram on the Primary Sidebar Widget??
I didn't think this would of been as much work as i thought but i am eager to get to a resolution.
Thanks
Rick
August 7, 2013 at 12:45 am #54511Brad DaltonParticipantI would test everything locally first as you're using an old theme.
Install WordPress locally using instantwp.com for Windows or MAMP for Mac and test all the changes there first.
The code i provided simply hooks in the DCG directly without the need for a widget and works perfectly as i tested it on your theme locally.
August 7, 2013 at 2:57 am #54512rick_fkMemberBrad,
Well just to make sure i understand your reply the solution will only work if i upgrade and follow the 3 steps you posted before in #54440?
It will not work if i just follow the 3 steps??
I was hoping there would be an easier solution. I'm starting to think that maybe i should update to a newer responsive themes and wait until the official 2.0 update.
I also have some plugins that i heard are having issues with the 2.0 beta so waiting might be the case.
Thanks though.
August 7, 2013 at 3:17 am #54514Brad DaltonParticipantIt will work if you follow the 3 steps.
Updating to Genesis 2.0, adding HTML 5 support to your child theme and updating your theme to the latest version is a seperate issue.
August 7, 2013 at 3:24 am #54515rick_fkMemberThanks i will try it then later in morning. I appreciate all the help.
August 7, 2013 at 1:04 pm #54661rick_fkMemberJust tried it and it worked like you said! Thanks for all the help man!! Now i gotta get my graphic guys on uploading larger images to fit it.
I see 2.0 is out!! =)
