I’m just starting to build a new blog site using the Metro theme. I’m also new to Genesis. I know a bit of HTML and can find my way around a CSS file, but I am not a programmer by any stretch.
Does anyone know how to display a video in place of the featured image?
Also, when I don’t have a featured image, I’d like to designate an image to use as the thumbnail. It would be great to have different thumbnails that are category specific.
(I had both of these in my old blog, but it was a custom design/theme and I have no idea how they did it.)
Thanks!
March 16, 2013 at 3:54 pm #28322For the video – just use a text widget and add your video code in there. Drag that text widget over to the Home Top area.
For the default featured image – try this plugin – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/default-featured-image/. For category specific, take a look at this – which was found under the plugin’s support tab – http://wordpress.org/support/topic/post-category-2.

I want Metro to recognize a video as an image so that when there is a video imbedded in a post, the video can be set as the featured image.
That plugin for default featured images was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
March 16, 2013 at 4:54 pm #28337I missed read what you wanted – try this – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/featured-video/.
You install that. Whenever you place a URL to video in a post, it will grab the video thumbnail and use that as the featured image.

For Genesis users, there also is a default featured image plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/genesis-featured-images/
March 19, 2013 at 4:11 pm #29500I installed the Genesis Featured Image and WordPress Related Post plugins. Both are set to use a default image as the featured image when none has been set in a post. Neither of them is working.
(Featured Video plugin is working fine.)
Anyone else having this problem?
