Hi all….wanting something simple that I’ve done before, but for some reason with this Blissful theme, I can’t remember where to adjust….I want one featured post and the rest to be excerpts. Just like my homepage is now, but with the first post being FULL. What the heck do I adjust to make that happen?

Try stacking your Featured Posts widgets. Make the first one pull in only 1 post, and show full content.
Then put a second Featured Posts widget under it with a 1 post offset, and set that widget to pull in only excerpts.
That should work.February 5, 2013 at 10:35 am #18226
you’re wonderful..thank you for responding…is this done in home.php or functions.php?February 5, 2013 at 10:54 am #18232
I have not used the Blissful theme, but I think that area on the home page is a widget. If it is, you should be able to put two Featured Post widgets in that area. Genesis will stack them on top of each other.February 6, 2013 at 9:03 am #18438
You freaking ROCK vwondra! Thank you SO SO SO SO much!
Love that I didn’t have to mess with code to do that. You are my hero!

You are most welcome!February 6, 2013 at 9:32 am #18444
The featured posts widget thing works, and I love that it’s so easy…however, when I enable that, I get doubles as in the posts show in excerpt form once, and then below, I’ve got another set of the same posts. I’m guessing it’s the default genesis excerpts..but how do you turn those off if you’re enabling the widgetized version?February 6, 2013 at 9:38 am #18445
Can you post a screenshot or link to the page doing that. I’m not sure I understand what it’s doing.

take a peek at my page now: Not only does it repeat the posts but it also strips any formatting between excerpts…making it look not so nice!February 6, 2013 at 10:01 am #18452
I deleted the featured posts widget so it’s back to “normal” view now. I have it set up with:
the featured posts widget showing 1 post with content. Then, the rest of the posts show excerpts based on Genesis Theme Settings > content archives > show post excerpts >
However, it displays the first post in full, and then below it, the first excerpt is the first post again. So, I have post #1 in full then…excerpt of Post#1, excerpt of post#2, etc.
What the heck?February 6, 2013 at 10:20 am #18459
The Featured posts plugin does pull out the formatting when it is pulling in the excerpts or page content (unless set to show all content)
I have not found a workaround or alternative to that.
Now about the repeating posts:
Go into the bottom of the two Featured Posts widget and find the “Number of Posts to Offset:” setting. Set that to “1” (without the quotes). That will make it skip the most recent post, and start with the one after that. Does that make sense?

I only have the ONE featured posts widget active since the second one stripped the formatting. So, I have one featured posts widget that is set to just show ONE full post. Then, the remainder of the posts are excerpts, set up only in genesis theme settings. It’s all PERFECT except that the first excerpt is a repeat of the full post above it. Make sense? How do I attach a screenshot here?February 6, 2013 at 1:15 pm #18476
Hmm… I’m sure it can be coded to work that way in your themes home.php file. I’m not as great with coding as I used to be, so I am going to have to defer to other more code-minded folks here on the boards.
sorry but I don’t want to steer you wrong.February 27, 2013 at 10:42 am #23114
I think I this has to do with the home.php folder. That’s the one that makes the excerpts on the home page, but I’m not sure how to edit it….maybe just delete that all the way and then use the featured widget?February 27, 2013 at 11:04 am #23118
Found this on the old forum:
The simplest way to do that in blissful would be to add this to the home.php file before genesis()
remove_action( 'genesis_loop', 'genesis_do_loop' );
Then use two Genesis Featured Post widgets in the home top sidebar for your content. In the first, select to show the full content and 1 post, in the second select to show the excerpt or limit the content, and however many excerpts as you want, but make sure you select an offset of 1, which will skip the first post you are already showing.
