    Hello,
Am using the Balance theme and would like to be able to do an RSS feed on a page of its own rather than in the sidebar. Is there a way to do that in the Balance theme?

If not, I have the whole package — if there is a page that will allow me to do that in another theme, please tell me how to get it from the other theme and how to place it into the site on which I’m using Balance. Or point me to a resource that explains this from the dashboard forward.

I’m pretty geeky, but just need to know where to find things. Thanks!

    Hi Pat,

You can add a new full-width widget area, hook it within the content area, and use conditional logic to display it only on a specific page. If you need detailed instructions, let me know – I’ve been meaning to write a blog post about this anyway, so I can throw something together for you if you need it.

    Hi Andrea,
Detailed instructions would be terrific! I see references to “hook it” as I’ve searched, and I don’t know what that is or how to do it.

WordPress for Dummies is too basic and the things I have found online are too technical :-(
Is there a good “Customizing 101″ somewhere that will walk me through where to find the page code, how to make it work (as you said to hook it within the context area) and the syntax of shortcode? I can find my way through HTML pretty well, but I’m having trouble finding how shortcode should be placed in the html. Does it require brackets?

Then, there’s doing my own customizing. For example, I found a resource online that tells me the codes for dates: D, F, Y
but to place it, do I need parenthesis, brackets, something else?

A blog post or compass to point me in the right direction would be most appreciated! :-)

Working on a blog post for this… It should be up sometime tomorrow, and I’ll update here when it’s live. I don’t know that I can address all your questions but I can at least do a walkthrough of setting up a widget area on a page.
