Total newbie with out-of-the-box plain vanilla Generate home page. I picked Generate because it had the top 2 articles taking up entire main column and then had older posts in a 2 column format beneath.
How can I limit the top 2 articles so that they only show about 50 words and not display the entire post? I apologize in advance because I know this must be a simple switch somewhere, but I can't find it. Thanks.

Btw, I'm not being intentionally vague. If I type the more tag directly in this forum post, there's a decent chance the forum software will misinterpret it, potentially giving you bad instructions.
Your theme uses the grid loop, and Genesis 1.9 introduced some changes here, so if you wanted to automate having a more tag placed at a certain point in the content, that is doable - but more work.

January 30, 2013 at 5:40 pm #16569hlothropMemberBill, I appreciate your comments. Manually inserting a "more" tag on every post doesn't seem like a good long term solution to me. I guess I'll need to look at the "more work" type of solutions. Thanks.
It's hard for me to believe that there's no "built-in" way to easily limit how much is displayed. Guess I overestimated what I was getting.

They can be changed via editing home.php or using plugins where the plugin would make a setting, but you would not have a user interface to chance the setting as you desire. On our network, we have a number of these "functionality" plugins where switching from 1 setting to another involves deactivating 1 plugin and activating another.
That is not to say that the Generate theme can NOT be made to provide the functionality you want, because it can. For example, home.php could be modified not to use the grid loop, and that area could be widgetized where you could drop in a widget, styled into a grid, where the widget would give you the user interface to make the setting change you want.
Any theme requires some degree of customization. You can probably dig around and find tutorials that will guide you through this customization. Or you can hire a developer to pull it off for you. Or on our network (I run a managed WP hosting service), you could say "please show me how to do this". There are many ways to get to the same endpoint. I didn't mean to convey that it wasn't possible, because given enough time or money, most things are possible.

'feature_content_limit' => 0,
e.g.
'feature_content_limit' => 300,
