I have the genesis framework and the optimal theme.
the problem I am having is that I want to use the home feature # 1 and home feature # 2 widget columns and combine them together so I can use that space for one widget, while still using the home feature sidebar to the left of this space.

Is this a simple thing that can be done, or is this intensive css coding?

I put the link here so you can see what I am talking about (Gaming events agenda.)
but basically i want this to stretch across both columns.

    thank you,

Sure, just change the width of .home-feature-1 from 48% to 100% and you’re good to go. :)

    Best,
