Hi everyone
I am very new to WordPress/Studiopress and do not know much about blogging (besides all the fantastic blogs that I have read).
I have just installed the Genesis framework and am trying to decide which child theme to use - and really do not know where to start!
I am creating a lifestyle blog and would like the following on my website
- my logo/social media icons and search bar at the top
- links to different categories (about me, travel, DIY etc)
- a slider with pictures I have chosen
- small icons with some text from my posts
- space for future advertising
- 'connect with me' and social media icons down the bottomI'm not sure whether these are included in themes, or are widgets?
I would like a theme similar to the Avada theme like this website - http://www.theblondeabroad.com
Please point me in the right direction, your help is much appreciated! 🙂

- my logo/social media icons and search bar at the top - built in functionality, (or the simple social icons plugin)
- links to different categories (about me, travel, DIY etc) - built in functionality in all themes
- a slider with pictures I have chosen - you'll need a theme with a home page widget area
- small icons with some text from my posts - built in functionality - thumbnails with content excerpts
- space for future advertising - built in functionality in the sidebar, or a widget area.
- ‘connect with me’ and social media icons down the bottom - social sharing plugin.Take a look at the Centric Pro theme by StudioPress, or the Swank theme by Pretty Darn Cute Design

Funny enough I was looking at the Swank theme last night - think I might go with that one.
Thanks for your help 🙂

You can search and select and view screenshots of these and over 300 themes here : http://genesisthemes.ca/
Have a look under Features > Full Width( @aTouchofSummer has also made a guide site here: http://www.genesisthemesguide.com/ )
I agree about Centric as a starter to get the vibe you're looking for. You might also like Stage2 from Themedy, Think from PWD, or Mindfullness from zigzagpress.
Good Luck with your new site.
Choose your next site design from over 350 Genesis themes.
