    I am working on a site and I need to apply a transpariency to the page. The design needs to have no background to the header and sidebar, but the .content area needs to be white with a slight transparency.

    I have successful removed the background from the sidebar and header using the following rule:

    .content {
    opacity:0.8;
    filter:alpha(opacity=80); /* For IE8 and earlier */
    }

    I applied transparency to the .content area but I can see the css rule is also applying it to the content on the page as well.

    How can I apply a css3 transparency to just the white area behind the content? Or do I have to use a PNG image to achieve this?

    Thanks – Seb

    It seems you need to use a png image with opacity and report it as the background. I could not get anything else to work.
