For my site over at the link to see my blog page where they see parts of various post all under each other etc (then the usual 'read more' to open the actual post) I want to be able to do a Couple of things please anyone
basic I know But I am new to all this):I want to have my full name not JUST first christian name show up as author (right now ist only my first name) and need to know how to edit that please but not sure where to do this and its file and how…the element css rule using mozilla was author cv card etc
Plus I want it to have the words 'written by' instead of right now it says the words: 'by' ......again how to do this and file location
My post seen in the blog page only have a few sentences ... then read more BUT I want it to show at least a few paragraphs ........so Where in the settings do you get it to this?
Would really like to know how to show any bold format sentences text and the image AND audio player plugin you may have used in the main post .... to be ALSO be seen for that on its preview here in the main blog page (so they see that same image, maybe audio player to listen there and then and see a few first paragraphs some sentences or words in bold and then click the usual read more to see full post)If someone could kindly let me know How to do the three things above and where to locate which file and its folders and what code to maybe add etc or even widgets/plugin or settings that might do certain things I'd be a very happy bunny!
I use genesis lifestyle theme (my site is set up as as static home page and you click on the blog menu and there read blog posts)
Many thanks
Jenny
January 12, 2013 at 8:36 am #11443SusanModeratorFor your full name to show: Dashboard > Users > Your Profile > Display Name Publicly as (chose your full name from the drop down) - If your full name isn't available in the drop down, add your full name to the "nickname" section above the drop-down. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and click "Update profile".
For parts of a post/page to show in bold (assuming you are talking about the content of the post/page), you would select "B" in the visual editor tool bar.For the rest, can you please provide a link to your site, or let me know which theme you are using - it will help me locate the code you need to change.
January 12, 2013 at 11:15 am #11462JennyLonMemberHi Susan,
many thanks for getting back to me I did mention which theme I was using it was stated just above my thank you bit at the end in my post on the forum...anyways its Lifestyle theme.
Its my partners Craig's site (one of several sites) the url is http://www.theultimatetherapist.com this is a work /website in progress and some of the posts are just test posts right now for the blog side of things Susan you will see in our menu then blog top right
I got the authors name to show up in full Now in the Blog page thanks for that...
all that's left is these few things to figure out:
1)would like it to have written by xy instead of right now it just has by.on the blog
2) if you takes look at this web url at: http://kendallsummerhawk.com/ and her blog link in the menu and notice Kendall's part posts on her main blog have numerous paragraphs then read more ( I would like to do similar instead of just a few sentences)
and finally what would be great is this please Susan:
notice her words here and there in bold etc just in the blog page itself then you click read more - how do I also get to do this please? (http://kendallsummerhawk.com/blog/ )
I know how to format words make them bold etc and do this over in the actual post ITSELF BUT how do you carry that bold and formatting use of words back in the main blog like she did etc, and then you click her read more and see it all in full.
When I made some words here and there for the main post bold It did not carry through for me over at the blog page notice: http://www.theultimatetherapist.com/blog-2/ (and see the: Test post Craig depression post, it's missing bold text and our audio player)
yet when you click on that post just mentioned and read more...well as you can see text right at the start are infact bold here and there
so How would you also have the audio player show up like Kendall has done for her preview of the post ?
have bold text carry throughout the blog as set in its main post
how do I get to edit the words and use "written by" instead of: by (which ours right now is)
get more paragraphs to show up in the blog several then click more etc
many thanks indeed Susan,
regards Jenny
ps I want to disable comments on PAGES I just noticed on pages of our sites at the end of content you can leave a comment is there an option not to always have this for each page?
January 12, 2013 at 2:12 pm #11485SusanModeratorMy bad! I didn't see the theme you were using in your original post 🙁
1)would like it to have written by xy instead of right now it just has by.on the blog
I recommend the Genesis Simple Edits plug in - it will allow you to easily customize this.
2) if you takes look at this web url at: http://kendallsummerhawk.com/ and her blog link in the menu and notice Kendall’s part posts on her main blog have numerous paragraphs then read more ( I would like to do similar instead of just a few sentences)
In your functions.php, add this code (changing 50 to the number of words you would like to include in your post excerpt:
/** Modify the length of post excerpts */ add_filter( 'excerpt_length', 'custom_excerpt_length' ); function custom_excerpt_length($length) { return 50; // pull first 50 words }
3. OK, you got me on that one; let me do some more research...

real good of you for stuff so far. No rush
my best to you Jenny
January 13, 2013 at 3:33 pm #11656Gary JonesMember3) Instead of displaying the excerpt on archive pages (e.g. /blog/), she'll be displaying he full post content and then inserting a More tag (there's a button for it on the tool bar).
What you'll end up with is something like:
Blah blah blah...all this will appear on the archive page, and will end with a "Read more" (by default).
<!--more-->
This bit of the post is only shown when you click through to the single post - the Read more link will usually jump the page down to this point so the reader can carry on from where they were reading before they clicked.
One not-very-known tip, is that you can customise the "Read more" text for each and every post to make it more contextually enticing. Just add the text you want into the more comment tag:
<!--more Find out how this funny story ends-->
If you don't include a more tag, then the whole post content is shown.
Since the archive is showing the first part of the content, then the formatting is carried through as well.
You can change what the blog archive displays, via the Genesis Theme Settings.

January 14, 2013 at 6:55 am #11794JennyLonMemberHi Gary or anyone...
Still needs some help here as still not sorted showing several paragraphs etc working for me....
Firstly tried doing the add more tag via te tool bar button where I wanted it to show a few paragraph and they click more
Hmmm, well that never worked it showed only one very short paragraph and not more where I had selected it. in the blog post page....
So even tried adding the actual code itself manually <!–more–> and this too did not give me and additional further blog archive content let alone none of it shows and bold formatting. (added it in html tab or now called the text tab)
I noticed over in the Content archive displays, via the Genesis Theme Settings. you have the option of:
the limit content to (number of) characters (of which I played with see my comments 3rd bullet down)
'Display post excerpts (by me choosing that option that did NOT show any content at all!)
Display content and if you use this option it evens tells you: "Using this option will limit the text and strip all formatting from the text displayed"I noticed all the paragraph end up as one complete block of content, no bold and looked awful!
*** so still stuck here Gary or anyone, Would be nice to show a few paragraphs and its bold sentences inserted in my BLOG archive and read more placed where I want them to then do that to read its full post etc...(as per this web url at: http://kendallsummerhawk.com/
I have not added any code ( so far to any of my files php etc) If it seems I may have to add some code,....please let me know what specifically and where about on what file.
Many thanks
Jenny

Update 1/17 - still looking for a solution. Can anyone help?
January 18, 2013 at 6:57 pm #13008SusanModerator@JennyLon - per our off-line conversation, I was able to get the look you were hoping to achieve on one of my test sites by using the advanced excerpt plug-in.. You weren't able to replicate this, and in logging into your site per your request, I was not able to get it working on your site, either.
At this point, my recommendation would be to disable all plug-ins, and see if that helps - your site has a number of plug-ins that my test site doesn't have.
Does anyone else in the StudioPress community have any other suggestions for Jenny?
