Just copy your favicon.ico file into ‘images’ folder of your child theme folder. Your new favicon will start appearing automatically.

Make sure it is an .ico file when you replace it and you might have to clear your cache. For me at times it can take a day or 2 for it to update correctly.

Yup, clear cache. Also, you may open different browser to check website favicon / use proxy site to pull latest website content. Lastly, you may use favicon plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=favicon

Recently replaced my own facivon.ico and it took FOUR DAYS for the change to show up in my browser, and that’s after clearing the cache.

I’ve seen it take longer, so don’t be surprised if there’s a lag. If you’ve got the file itself in the right place, it should take, albeit at a snail’s pace.

Sometimes it shows straight away if you type the direct url path to your favicon, example:

mywebsite.com/wp-config/themes/my-theme/images/favicon.ico

you can also try removing the cache of your browser and reboot the browser.

In functions.php of the theme ….
add_filter( ‘genesis_pre_load_favicon’, ‘custom_favicon_filter’ );
function custom_favicon_filter( $favicon_url ) {
return ‘http://www.mydomain.com/xxxx/xxxx/favicon.ico’;
}
(Upload the .ico file to somewhere on the site and have return link show it.)

To add a favicon :-

1.Upload your image in the .ico format at the wp-content/uploads directory/youricon.ico
2.Add <link rel=”icon” href=”/favicon.ico” type=”http://mywebsite.com/wp-content/uploads/youricon.ico”> in the header section.
