I am trying to get social buttons to appear on an author archive page, e.g. mysite .com/author/somebody/ and I'm using a Genesis HTML5 theme.
I can get social buttons to appear at the end of a single post but cannot seem to do the same regarding the author archive. I am guessing this is happening because a plugin will replace a portion of a page by using a hook to generate it using a traditional HTML template but doesn't touch the author archive portion that is generated by Genesis itself. Unfortunately I find Genesis themes to be challenging to change other than the basics since it doesn't use templates in a tangible layout in order to generate pages.

I've tried any of a dozen of them and they are all the same result. For the moment I'm using this one because it's the easiest to style and it's extremely clean from a visual and insertion standpoint.

The problem comes about that the box isn't also inserted into the author page, which uses the stock Genesis/Metro version. If there were actual files to edit, e.g. author.php, this would be simple to remedy. I'm learning that Genesis templates has a very high learning curve and simple edits are certainly not straightforward. Hopefully this issue has a simple way to manage and I can ramp up the learning curve on templates in the coming weeks. Thank you!

Are you referring to the author box or author archive page?
I just wrote a post about styling the author box and you can simply add the HTML for the buttons into the Bio info box.
Otherwise there's several plugins you can use.http://wordpress.org/plugins/fancier-author-box/
The problem with editing templates is you lose your customization when you update the parent theme.
If you compare a default WordPress theme to a SP theme, you're talking about playing with over 30 files compared to 2-3 for StudioPress.
I've found it significantly easier to custom SP child themes than any other.
Have you checked out all the resources SP offer?

I've begun to realize why I miss the 30 files for stock WordPress over the handful for SP. I've noticed that SP themes are sufficient for a 1 author blog but have challenges elsewhere.
For example - the "news" templates. They look nice on the home page but are clearly not sufficient if you're running an actual WordPress based news site. You need a proper author box with author links per post, on an author page and on a list of authors page. You also don't put in links inside the author text as is done.
So I looked at the WordPress Codex and nothing works in SP unfortunately: http://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates
There are other issues I'm tackling which you'll see that are common but just very difficult to manage (e.g. - why even bother writing category descriptions if you can't easily get them to display in a category page?) I'll deal with just this one and the other issue I'm having a problem with when converting my current template to a genesis theme.
