I’m trying to add a page to my website which will show a live version of a template I am building for someone. I thought of using a subdomain, but then I would have to install WordPress, etc. (wouldn’t I?) there and that will take up too many server resources. Is something like this even possible? I haven’t been able to think of a way.

I have already done it at template1.25julydesignstudio.com but that’s a subdomain. I’d like to actually put it on the site.

    Thanks if anyone can help,

    Dianne

    Where the template coming from?

Can you paste the code for the template in a Github Gist and link to it from here please.

It’s the one I now have at template1.25julydesignstudio.com. Does that help because I’m not sure what Github Gist is.

One way to showcase a external link would be to use an iframe. You will most likely have to tweak this a bit but try something like

    <iframe src="http://www.template1.25julydesignstudio.com"></iframe>

And this is what it would look like http://wpzombies.com/iframe/

You can get creative and add a button to open the iframe at full width of the browser, this is how studiopress does it when showing the theme demos http://my.studiopress.com/themes/genesis

Thank you nunotmp, the iframe works but it’s small on the page. How do I make it full size? Also, if I use the iframe I will have to keep the info on template1. I was hoping to keep replacing it with different company names as samples so I don’t need a bunch of wp installations. Is there a way to do that?

    Thanks,

    Dianne

Yes you will have to leave it at the domain. I have over 20 WordPress installs on my domain wpzombies.com I simply create a new directory/folder. For example I use wpzombies.co/clientname and add new WordPress install. It is very easy and you don’t have to register a sub domain every time.

Ok, that sounds like it will work. Do all those wp installs use a lot of the resources on your server?

    Thanks for all your help,

    Dianne
