that article says: "Only preventing measure you can take is to makes sure, “attachment post URL” option is NOT selected while insert images into a post. Besides this, there is no option to disable creation of dedicated image attachment pages."No, that is not true, unfortunately, it's NOT a preventing measure at all. The attachment post is created just the same regardless if you choose the options you recommend. That option is simply where you choose what will it link to when your image in the original post is being clicked on.
For example, when creating my posts, I did not select "attachment post URL", i selected "file URL", just like your article recommends to do. But WP still forced the attachment page being created. That's the problem. So that is NOT an opinion to disable creation of attachment post at all.
About the redirect, it will not work for me unfortunately. I understand that from SEO point it does make some better sense to do what you outlined in your article as it will stop search engines from indexing; but still, a redirect is slowing loading time and is not best for user experience, so it still would be better to figure out how to stop the attachment posts being generated, instead of redirecting.
But also, the 301 redirect is not solving the problem of my hosting server being overloaded with so many duplicate spam pages aka "attachment posts",
so, instead of 301 redirect, if possible, i would like to implement some coding adjustments, or something. To stop the attachment pages from being automatically generated in the first place.
Do you know how to do that? Thank you in advance.March 30, 2015 at 8:54 am #146107Davinder Singh KainthMemberWhat I understand. by default WP will create attachment page for every image that you upload. We can control to hide that from search engines.

my understanding is that it is impossible to stop the generation of the attachment posts. You can only change what is shown.
See this explanation from a moderator at WordPress.org
