Hello.
I'm thinking about a new niche site and I would like to list articles, both by price range and age range.
How can I do this with WordPress? I have the Metro Pro template and I thought about asigning a post per item, do you think it's a good idea to add another field (price) and make each age range a category?
Any input is welcomed.
January 20, 2015 at 12:03 pm #138096askdesignParticipantTo start out, I'd use category. You can assign categories to a post (see right sidebar "Categories" area).
When creating a navigation menu (see left sidebar "Appearance" > "Menus"), you can select categories to add to the menu. Once you click "Add to Menu", look for the new item(s) at the bottom of the menu. Select 1 item at a time with your cursor to drag to whatever position in the menu you want.
As an alternative, there might be plug-ins for you to consider. Something that would sort and filter your posts.

Can you share some more details about what you're trying to do? For example, what do you mean by "post per item" and how are you defining "age range" (i.e. when a post was published)?

January 20, 2015 at 12:12 pm #138098manicminerMemberI want to make something like this for a specific niche: http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/ no need to be so custom (yet)
I want to link to Amazon items for an age range and price range. I don't mind to not be able to sort them very well for now, just to establish a solid foundation... so I prefer to not use plugins that may crash in the future.
Thank you!
January 20, 2015 at 12:19 pm #138100askdesignParticipantIt looks like the site "thisiswhyimbroke.com" uses a filtering based on category. Not sure if they're using a plug-in to achieve this.
But, another idea is to use the "featured post" widget available on a lot of themes for the home page. Check to see if you have that option with Metro Pro.

So do you think it would be a good option to create category for each age range and price as a custom extra field, and later code the filtering?
January 20, 2015 at 12:27 pm #138103askdesignParticipantYou could create custom fields, but they may not be necessary. Try categories first. Whichever works best for your situation!

Does this sound ok to you?
January 20, 2015 at 12:32 pm #138106askdesignParticipantYes, I was thinking age range and price range categories.
I added this thought to my comment above, which I'll repeat here...
