Hello;
A customer wants to take the site I built for him: http://redwoodestateshomes4sale.com/ and replace the rotator (slider widget) and the search widget to the right of it and make one large area where we can put links to 20 pages for separate subdivisions. I know how to expand the slider widget across the top but not sure of the best way to get links to fill this area (especially 20 of them) and have it look attractive. Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

Another option is to use a slider plugin like the premium version of Soliloquy or Slidedeck which enable you to add custom content in the slider

What about using a link list plugin? Would that fit in the area?
I was thinking about some how making a drop down menu where the view current listings/recent sales buttons are and title it "Select your subdivision" then the selection would take them to a page where all of the information for that particular subdivision would be.

There's many different ways to do it but 20 links is a lot and not sure how they would fit next to a slider.
You could hook the slider in before the loop and use the genesis_before_sidebar_widget_area hook to add a new widget for the links.
Or create a new full width widget area, add the content columns and use the slider shortcode in the left column and the HTML for the links in the right.
Another option is to create 2 new widget areas side by side.
Either way it very easy to do and happy to supply the new widget code(PHP), just let me know which hook position. You would need to modify the CSS code for this if needed as the code i wrote works for a specific width.
Would be heaps of plugins for custom links

BUT when I reduce the feature top to 550px to only display the slider, the links widget (in place of the search widget) gets tucked underneath the rotator? I want to keep the rotator, and have the link list side by side even though it will hang below the rotator. How do I get the property search widget (where I have the links widget) to be independent of the feature-top? If I can get that done I think I will meet the customers expectations. Can you tell me how to make the feature top only 575px wide. and then allow the property search to hang next to it on the left? Or is there a way to get the links to wrap to the second column to the right?
Thanks,
John
PS this is what happens when a customer completely changes horses mid stream - if I knew this were his intentions I would have used a different theme.
