Hello people,
I am quite green when it comes to Genesis customisation. I think this may be quite easy to achieve - but what do I know.
I would like to include a standard category archive in a widgeted area of my Agency child theme home page. I have successfully customised the Home Page to make one wide column area and one thin column area in place of the default Home Left, Home Middle and Home Left.
I have played around with the Genesis Featured Posts widget - but this doesn't pull in the AddThis Share plugin which I have installed. What I would like to get is exactly what is output when viewing for exaple http://www.domain.co.uk/?cat=3 but for this to appear in my new widgeted area along with the other home page elements.
I hope this makes sense and that maybe someone could point me in the right direction. I guess what I need is a new widget that matches the standard category archive output ( including any plugins )
Regards
Alec

Just to be clear. You are looking for something like Genesis Featured Posts widget, but with the AddThis icons associated with every post?
June 19, 2013 at 8:26 am #46739bizwebMemberHello Ryan,
Yes indeed. The Addthis Share plugin allowed me to automatically include the share icons at the bottom of each post and they appear there just fine on both single post view, and category view under each post displayed - but not in the featured post widget.
I'm not sure if there is a simple tweak to the featured-post-widget.php file that would achieve this, or if there is a way to include the standard Category view loop into the widgeted area.

What are you options for displaying content? 'Show Content', 'Show Excerpt', 'Show Content Limit', 'No content'?
June 19, 2013 at 9:30 am #46748bizwebMemberHi again Ryan,
I am looking to display full content - as if it was the category archive page, but tucked into my widgeted area.

I am attempting to get my testing envrionment setup to test this. Is this the plugin you are using?
http://wordpress.org/plugins/addthis/
Are you limiting the content by chance?
June 20, 2013 at 12:07 am #46860bizwebMemberHi again Ryan
Sorry for delay. Yes that looks like the same plugin. It is listed as AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget v3.1
No limit to content - I'm looking to get the full post content output, maybe limit the number of posts shown with a 'see more' link to the standard category archive.

I did some testing myself and I was able to get the links to display for each post within the widget.
One possible issue is if the share buttons are only allowed to show during a single post, which would turn them off on your home and archive pages.
They most likely will not show during an excerpt or if the limit the content, because neither of those options will allow the 'the_content' filter to trigger.
Try adding the feature posts widget on a sidebar so it will show on other pages and crawl around the website and see if the share buttons happen to show.
Hope this points you in the right direction.
June 20, 2013 at 7:54 am #46878bizwebMemberHey Ryan,
Thank you very much for your assistance - it has been a great help. I installed the 'Amplified' genesis featured posts widget and the share links have turned up... wah hey 🙂
Not quite sure why I wasn't seeing them before. I really appreciate your looking into this for me... I am loving Genesis, their support and the community on the forums.
Thanks again, and have a good day!
