I have installed a 2nd WPress in a subfolder to my root domain to get a new theme activated and spend a few weeks to configure it perfectly add exiting content to it… THEN move the whole thing over to the root directory (for that to be Now the actual main working new website not what WAS or is in there right now
****Hence Please can someone tell me how to do this so I can have new theme and content in subdirectory now become the new live website? Is there renaming to be done, do I need a free plugin to help me etc?
****Please also note
I would also like to be able to still open up old site in wp to see content pages as a reference etc (and act as possible test site) so that now becomes moved from current root folder to subdirectory
How best to do this also please? !
many thanks!May 14, 2015 at 8:51 am #152184SusanModeratorThis guide should help: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
May 14, 2015 at 12:38 pm #152222JennyLonMemberHow funny I saw that actually it lost me sorry it frankly went over my head look way to complex hence I posted here !
Infact also 6 of my office people were baffled and tried to follow it for lay people it seemd a mindfieldso again anyone can you help simply explain what I have to do said in much simpler terms your grandma or 16 year old daughter could likely grasp?
May 14, 2015 at 2:15 pm #152251MoodyRivieraMemberThose instructions really are intimidating. Maybe you could try some of these links that might be a bit easier to understand:

Of course you can also look for plugins that might make this whole thing much easier.

If maybe still somewhat struggling I'll get back here and say sot... aAnd yes Totally agree with you as you said those instructions by wordpress moving wordpress really are intimidating .... Nicely described language!
indeed numerous newbies say exactly same thing!
Plugins to do this sure may well work do you know of any free ones?BUT that said ... still need to specifically even with plugin (some have awful or no instructions )..... know what to move or rename and do....
As explained I will be ready soon to have the sub folder site become the new live site and HOW to get it in main root folder of my website ****and then plus take out the current entire old existing theme and content and put that in a sub directory so it all works stillMay 14, 2015 at 3:56 pm #152261MoodyRivieraMember@JennyLon OK...here are links to three plugins that look like they might work...all have lots of downloads, which usually means something works fairly well. Good luck.
