I am using the sample child theme which is setup to be responsive but it isn't working properly for me. It seems as though it's the nav bar and the sidebar/widgets that are out of place. I checked the original coding and it's the same with the exception of the background image size which I changed and it helped a bit.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
http://www.masonjarsalads.comDecember 28, 2013 at 8:53 pm #81753AnitaKeymasterYour CSS doesn't look like the original CSS. I ran your CSS through the Diff Checker and it's pulled a lot of code that is different from the original Sample child theme. You've changed a lot of margins, widths, padding, line heights, font sizes, etc., Any changes you make need to be made to your media queries as well. The media queries don't automatically update.

December 29, 2013 at 8:32 am #81816masonjarsaladsMemberOuch, I did't realize that. All the code that is under the media files that is also under the header, content, sidebar etc. needs to be the same?
Thank you so much for this.
December 29, 2013 at 8:34 am #81817AnitaKeymasterWell, no. Those elements that you want to show up in responsive need to be in there and then changed according to the different mobile device sizes. You will need to test the code on different devices so it shows up the way you want it.

December 29, 2013 at 8:48 am #81820masonjarsaladsMemberThank you! Last question, there are changes I've made to font, color etc. that aren't originally in the media files do they need to be added or do I only need to change what was originally there and changed elsewhere?
I'm clearly new at this but loving the learning process. thanks again.
December 29, 2013 at 9:17 am #81830AnitaKeymasterIt depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your site. You may feel the font sizes are too big for say a 320 wide mobile device, you may think that the images aren't large enough or to big for a 768 screen and need to be centered, etc. There's no exact science because everyone's sites, logos, images, content are all different. So you have to code it specifically for your website. The SP themes are pre-configured for usage straight out the box. Once you start customizing the code - the pre-configured SP code may or may not work for you.

December 29, 2013 at 9:25 am #81833AnitaKeymasterI use my desktop, laptop, Kindle, Android to test out all of the code as modify the media queries. I do one size, get it right... then move on to another size, get that right. It's a process.

December 29, 2013 at 12:53 pm #81868masonjarsaladsMemberThat's exactly what I am doing. Can you customize it per device size?
December 29, 2013 at 1:13 pm #81871AnitaKeymasterYou can by device size. There are some other CSS codes floating around for iPhone/iPad specific devices. Just Google them.
