    I am using the Metro theme. I uploaded a background header, but when I change the them color in the admin settings, I cannot see my header, the background color fills the header. I tried both of the css methods mentioned in this post.

    Neither method works because they both change the color of the hover over color in the navigational menu.

    This is a heating cooling site, and I would like to be able to easily switch to  blue (for cool) in summer, and red (for warm) in winter.

    Hi Larry

    You could hook it in using Simple Hooks but you would also need to unhook the header which means losing the header right widget. This works when changing colors.

    Another option is to use CSS which works when changing colors.

    #header {
    background: url(‘full/path/to/header.png’);

    But you’ll also find the title might give you a problem which you can remove using display: none in your style.css file.

    #title a {
        background-color: #F96E5B;
        display: none;
        line-height: 1;
        padding: 0.5rem 1rem;

    Hi Brad. The added the header image in the css did not work for me, but I found a solution. I simply left the color set as default in the dashboard theme settings. I then created new style sheets by doing a search and replace of the default color with the red color. It is not best solution but it works. Thanks for your help.
