I want to use the background image feature of Minimum Pro, but not so that it takes up virtually the whole screen. I tried doing this by uploading an image 1349x300px versus 1349x493, but the picture came up distorted, with the "full screen" effect.
Is there a simple adjustment I can make to the coding, or is this a complex customisation exercise?
My sandbox site for this is http://blogfromthebeach.com - currently has the image at "full size" 1349x493px
I like the scrolling, but I'd be ok if the image had to stay static. What I'd like to get (scrollable or not) is an effect like that in the showcase site https://www.standoutbooks.com/ but I can't see how they have done that banner type image. Sorry, I'm not that effective in using firebug!

You can add default args to the existing custom background callback in your child themes file however i doubt it will make any difference.
//* Add support for custom background add_theme_support( 'custom-background', array( 'wp-head-callback' => '__return_false' ) );
You image should re-size properly when the screen re-sizes as its using the Backstretch script.

Sorry, I should have made that clearer. Different version of the original image.
I trimmed the 1349x493ps image to make it 1349x300px then uploaded the new image. When I refreshed the page the image showing was about 1349x510px and the image displaying was effectively cropped on the horizontal, presumably to retain the proportiality and still fill the whole space. Which I assume is the backstretch in action.

However, due to the nature of the effect applied to this background image, not all images will look correct. Images without a specific focal point, such as natural scenes that will not look unusual when only a portion of the image is displayed, will work best. http://my.studiopress.com/setup/minimum-theme/
I would try another image. You may have to do this to work out the best result.
October 14, 2013 at 4:35 am #66602sdbrokerMemberGo to your CSS file and look for this code on line 518 (if you haven't made any changes):
.minimum .site-tagline { margin-top: 600px; margin-top: 60rem; }
lower both margin numbers until you get the best result that you want! If you want visible image around 300px, then lower both to around 380px & 38rem.
Because you want a nice looking not distorted image, for best results upload a 1,600px ?— 1,050px size image.

Worked on the front page but on other pages the tagline almost disappears.
October 14, 2013 at 11:00 am #66675sdbrokerMemberWhat settings did you use? It worked fine on mine lowering it to 340px & 34rem.
Did you also change the site tagline settings on line 494? They should stay as is at:
`.site-tagline {
background-color: #f5f5f5;
border-bottom: 1px solid #eee;
margin-top: 60px;
margin-top: 6rem;
padding: 40px 0;
padding: 4rem 0;
}December 4, 2013 at 7:29 pm #77091NathanielMemberJust wanted to chime in and say that I had the same question. I took sdbroker's advice (making changes only at line 518) and it worked for me. The image is shorter on the home page, and I didn't get any distortion to the tagline on post pages.
Thanks.
