I was recently about to tweak something in my blog but noticed that the Editor is no longer visible under the Appearance section. I tried changing theme (Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Twelve, Genesis Serenity, Min Pro), deactivatied all plugins, nothing worked.
We then reinstalled wordpress, then Balance theme and the Editor is back. After a few hours, it’s gone again! I called my hosting provider to check and during the troubleshooting, he changed the theme to TwentyThirteen and the editor is back. Then he changed to Balance and it’s gone. So he told me to seek help here.
Does anyone ever encountered this kind of issue? I have been having a headache for almost a week now and next week is very crucial for me to finish the site design. Any help would be very much appreciated.

That is a weird one! I don’t know from the outside, but can offer some things to check. I’m going to assume that you don’t see “Edit” at all under Appearance. If you did see it, and couldn’t edit/save anyway, then it’s usually a file permissions issue.
One idea is a user permissions and/or security type of bug. Some plugins or processes will prevent someone from editing or seeing various things. But you said you disabled all plugins, so I’m a little skeptical that that’s it. If you have any plugins or functions that deal with Users or Security, this is a path to check, anyway. If some plugin damaged the database, then even disabling plugins may not help.
Another very random idea is that you’re on a multisite scenario, and it’s hinky, sort of “sometimes you can” and “sometimes you can’t” edit. Multisite is not my forte.
Sorry not to have more precise ideas.

I do not have a multisite.
We even went as far as reinstalling everything.
After a fresh install and a new theme the Editor wil be gone.
I am about to purchase another theme today but i am worried
that if this is genesis related i will end up having issues for long.
Would you know about what plugins can damage the database?
So far that is the only new thing I heard since having this issueDecember 13, 2013 at 2:35 pm #78880
Truthfully, my speculation about damaged database is most likely bunk, it’s just such an odd problem that I was extrapolating and fishing. I’ve never heard of this before in reference to Genesis per se. I had seen similar things caused by a Security plugin, and certainly loads of User Permission plugins control access to stuff, so those are my best guesses.
You could try official Studiopress support, and give them a log-in and see if they’ll investigate. They may not be willing, but you could ask. Beyond that, I’m sorry, I have nothing to offer.

I have tried changing themes and yes, it only happens when i activate the Sample Child, Minima Pro and Balance. After reverting to Twenty Thirteen, the editor is back.March 3, 2014 at 5:49 pm #93283
I just imported a website into Parallax theme and am also missing the theme editor. Any news on what the issue might be?

If you are hosting your blog with Websynthesis.com like myself, the editor link will be removed.
They did this on purpose to protect you from messing up files. http://websynthesis.com/ftp-connect-and-edit/March 3, 2014 at 9:42 pm #93307
If you are familiar with using the editor, you can ask them to add it back for you. They seem to be pretty good with that if you are a developer.March 3, 2014 at 9:54 pm #93311
I know just enough to get myself in trouble The ftp method looks like a better practice for the reasons listed in the article in the link above.
In other websites, I’ve dropped in a line or two of code using the editor and nothing blew up . . . I suspect that may be a bit too risky now.
The last theme I used had a place where you could insert custom code without editing the theme itself. I miss that safer way to edit . . .it was super quick and you could do it to adjust layout, etc.

Hummm can you install the Jetpack plugin with Synthesis? Is it available to you? If it is, the Custom CSS is available in the Jetpack.
