Hello!
I have a couple Modern Portfolio Questions. Any insight much appreciated?
1. How can i place the turquoise color to extend the width of a browser window behind my web banner? the other widget sections have the color to the browser width.
2. Is there a way i can get the nav bar to show on the opening page of the site? Nav bar appears on pages, but not the opening page of the site.
3. The portfolio widget is asking for posts, i like the format but would like the picture link to go directly to a "page". Where might I edit this?
Thank you!!

MaryJuly 12, 2013 at 4:39 pm #50475Doak HeggenessMemberI have not used this theme but here are my observations:
1) I assume you uploaded an image to the 'Custom Header'. I noticed the header has a fixed width:
/* 04a - Structure ----------- */ .wrap, #header, #inner { margin: 0 auto; max-width: 1080px; }
Try separating the #header and add a
background-color:#...;
andwidth:100%;
2)The primary & secondary navigation have been removed from the home page via the home.php file.
// Remove the navigation menus remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' ); remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_subnav' );
Uncomment then out by using:
/* // Remove the navigation menus remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_nav' ); remove_action( 'genesis_after_header', 'genesis_do_subnav' ); */
3) Give the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified a try if I understand the ?. You can picks 'pages' to display in lieu of 'posts'. However you will need to modify the style.css selectors under 'section #04b' as they are specific to the posts. ( use Firebug ). This will take some work.
I would use a third party app ( cPanel or SFTP ) to make these changes in cause you want to go back ( they may not work ) or an error

July 13, 2013 at 7:32 pm #50581rocketgirlMemberThanks for your reply. This might be too heady for me, but i'd like to attempt with your help.
1. How do i separate the header? Can you provide code that i can look at?
2. Thanks, with your help, that works!
3. I am using the widget apmplified (thank you for the suggestion) and now the pics link to the page; but am not sure how to get my pics, 3 across, 2 rows?
Thanks again for your help.
July 13, 2013 at 8:32 pm #50586Doak HeggenessMember1) Separate the header from what? The header & navigation are different div's.
3) It appears you installed the GWA widget in the 'Blog' sidebar in lieu of the 'Portfolio' sidebar. It is my understanding the demo had the posts in the 'Portfolio' sidebar, and was styled accordingly.

July 13, 2013 at 11:16 pm #50593rocketgirlMemberThank you for your response, please bear with me;
1. You said to separate the header. "Try separating the #header and add a background-color:#...; and width:100%;"
I'm not sure what or how this accomplished.2. I did use the blog for my portfolio, because it originally did group them 3 across, two rows. but when i activated the GWA, all my pages just go down the page. I'm not sure how to code it so the "pages" with the featured image - i know it's a div tag, but don't have enough experience to know where they should go.
Thanks again for your help.
July 15, 2013 at 5:11 am #50755rocketgirlMemberOnly have one current issue - trying to get a browser wide color behind my image header (only depth of the header, not going into nav bar). This is making my brain hurt - any insight gratefully accepted!
July 15, 2013 at 8:23 am #50780Doak HeggenessMemberThis is getting beyond the scope of this forum, but we are going to start from square on.
1) How did you exactly input he header?

uploaded it there.
thank you!July 16, 2013 at 8:01 am #50940Doak HeggenessMemberIf you want a background color full screen in your header, you cannot upload your header image via the Daahboard as you described. You have to do the following
1) Uncomment-out or delete theme support for the custom header in the functions.php file by using /*...*/ see below`/*
// Add support for custom header
add_theme_support( 'genesis-custom-header', array(
'width' => 1152,
'height' => 120
) );*/`2) Modify the style,css to give a background color to your header
/* 04a - Structure ----------- */ .wrap, #header, #inner { margin: 0 auto; max-width: 1080px; }
Change the above to:
/* 04a - Structure ----------- */ .wrap, #inner { margin: 0 auto; max-width: 1040px; } #header { background-color:#your-color; }
3) I have done this on this theme. It has some perculiarities. Upload you image header to the 'images' folder of your theme. Then you need to add your image to the stylesheet similar to adding a logo in this section`
/* 04c - Header ----------- */
.header-image #title,
.header-image #title a {
background: url( 'images/your-logo-filename.png' ) no-repeat;
}`
You man have to make some other modifications to this section as they have added some content under#title
This may not be worth the hassle for the outcome.
