Hello. I'm a newbie in need of some assistance. The homepage slider I am using has the photos going across the entire width of the page and suggests an image size of 1900x550. I purchased several large stock photos yesterday and thought the aspect ratios were close enough to the suggested dimensions that I would be able to resize and crop the images to fit. When I resize the images to 1900 wide, they're still much too high. If I crop them to 550 high, I can only see a small portion of the picture. I like the theme design with the images going across the entire page, so I don't really want to reduce the size of the images in the slider.
Is there a different way to make the photos fit the slider dimensions? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for stock photo site that would have a decent selection of photos that might fit?
Thanks!

May 12, 2015 at 11:02 am #151873Johnny_PMemberHi Brock. It's a third party Genesis theme: http://demo.simpleprothemes.com/flex/agency/.
The photo sizes I purchased were 3463x2592, 2714x1822, and 2716x1810. The next smaller sizes for the respective photos are
1602x1199, 1697x1131, 1698x1131. I went with the larger sizes since I thought it would be easy enough to resize the width to 1900.I have not activated the theme on the site yet since I am waiting to see if I can resolve the photo issue. The theme can be set up in a boxed layout with recommended image size of 1080x550. It would probably be easier to get the photos I purchased to fit that size, but the main thing I liked about the theme was the slider photos going across the full width of the page.

When you buy stock photos, as you've found out, they come in all kinds of different sizes...so what you have to do is crop the images to the dimensions suggested in your theme's instructions.
While it's possible to crop directly inside WordPress and with various plugins, the best way (and most sure way) is to crop the images with an image-editing program...such as Adobe Photoshop CC.
Crop, save, and then upload to your site.

It was only after I purchased the five stock photos I really liked that I realized the 550 px height was going to cause problems. I was hoping there was a 'trick' to resizing and cropping to make the photos fit my dimensions.
I am going to try to find some other photos which are closer to the dimensions I need. Until then, I might try to resize and crop to a smaller width which will leave white space on each side. Not exactly what I want, but I think it will work.
If I ever get it worked out, I will post back here.
