I have created a new template, and I’m getting most of it figured out, but trying to add the sidebar is proving more difficult.

I have a tabs jquery script that I’m running as well but here is what I’ve got so far:

I have all the jquery header stuff at the very top of the template, that’s working fine.

I then have a container div and then a content div.

I call get_header(); immediately following the container div, then the content div. Inside the content div I load the tables in the tabs, works perfectly. I close the content div and then call the get_footer(); function and it loads perfectly. I round it out with a close on the container div.

My question is, where do I add a div to handle the sidebar without screwing up the jquery code?

It sounds like you’re doing more coding than you really need to.

If you’re creating a page or category template, wouldn’t it be easier just to set the layout in the template using one of the hook filters?
