Have had a static website many years and a small WordPress blog several months. This will be my first time using Genesis and Prose child theme. My two basic questions:

    (1) Can I use Genesis and Prose for a basic, simple 1-3 page website (no blog) – or should I go with a simpler free theme for this? IOW, would Genesis/Prose be overkill?

    (2) Can I set up Genesis and Prose as a “website” with a blog section? (It seems that looking through samples, I saw something like this, but am not sure.

Hope this is not deemed too basic, and realize installing would answer my questions, but if I need to consider other themes or options for these two instances, would rather know ahead of time.

    Thank you for your insight.

Hello I would yes to both of your questions because StudioPress themes are build for just these reasons.

Good news! Thank you for your reply. I’m sure I will be back with questions as I build the sites – and will have links to post then.

@danakay, if you only want 1-3 pages with a blog page, I’d almost go with a different theme and eliminate Prose. It’s pretty much a beast to work with. But if you are up to the challenge, try it out. I would suggest you also use David Decker’s Prose Extra’s Plugin – http://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-prose-extras/. This will make customizing Prose a little bit easier on you.

Thank you for the suggestion, @anitac — can a non-StudioPress child theme be used with Genesis? Or would I either (1) use the free theme without Genesis, or (2) use Genesis and a more basic/easier StudioPress theme? (Although I may try Prose on the small site simply as a learning experience – I have downloaded the Prose Extras Plugin.)

Yes you can use the Genesis Framework for free Genesis Child Themes and Premium Child Themes.
