I hope this question is not too generic and out of the box,
but since I get lots of useful answers here I decided I would go for it!So basically I'm creating a WordPress website where I will catalog a group of items for the next few years.
For example I might have: Blu V-Neck Shirts. In 2014 I will have an article called: Blu V-Neck Shirts 2014
In 2015 I will have an article called: Blu V-Neck Shirts 2015
In 2016 I will have an article called: Blu V-Neck Shirts 2016
etc...
In 2099 if I'm still alive and the internet hasn't been replace by something else I will have an article called: Blu V-Neck Shirts 2099This will be done for hundreds of items: skirts, pants, ties... etc.
What I'm scared of is that in 2015, when someone Googles "Blu V-Neck Shirts", search engines will show the 2014 version of the page because maybe it will have more backlinks or for some reason it'll be "more relevant" for Google.
I don't know if there's anything I can do about that at all, but I thought that I would like to organize my site's navigation in a way that if in 2015 you get to an article of 2014, you'll still be able to quickly change the date and therefore get the up-to-date information.
Maybe by linking all Blu V-Neck Shirts posts in a way that you can skim through the years by clicking somewhere.
Or maybe I can help search engines understand that my site is a yearly catalog of stuff by assigning yearly categories to my posts?
At the moment I'm using:
mydomain.com/category/blu-vneck-shirts-2014maybe I should do:
mydomain.com/category/2014/blu-vneck-shirts-2014And use two categories?
Any suggestions at all so that I can plan ahead and solve the problem before it shows itself next year? Thanks

Update this post every year and split into multiple pages - with each page for one year respectively. [how to split post into pages - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcsFWmY863U%5D
Else use mydomain.com/category/2014/blu-vneck-shirts-2014 this option. Here you can add link to current year's t-shirt post on all previous years t-shirt posts.

I actually do like the idea of splitting the post into multiple pages, but I will have a lot of content for each item. At least 3-4k words. Why is it best if I have little content for this option? Thanks!
December 13, 2013 at 4:36 am #78782FabioParticipantand also
how does google index multiple pages in a post?
does it index as separate webpages?December 13, 2013 at 6:15 am #78787Davinder Singh KainthMemberLink juice won't get spread among posts with sort of similar content. It will remain there on single post and help in better ranking. Google only index the base url (which is canonical url) and not sub pages (but they find way in google index, not sure why). It won't index sub page urls, but contents can be read by google and hence indexed.
Since you are going to post lot of content, using separate post method is a better choice.

but why do you think it's better using separate posts if I have a lot of content?December 13, 2013 at 8:03 am #78794FabioParticipantAnd also,
if I use the pagination, how do I change: 1, 2, 3... with 2013, 2014, 2015... etc?
And how do I display it at the beginning of the article instead than at the end? Thanks a lot!
I might actually go for this option, can't see any problem with having lots of content.
December 13, 2013 at 8:56 pm #78965Davinder Singh KainthMemberI have to research on 2013, 2014 and showing beginning of article. Should be possible with custom php code. Will keep you posted.
