I’ve been working on my new site as a youth speaker for a while now. I wanted it to be simple and clear, leading my audience to certain key areas like:

    -email sign up
    -speaking info
    -answers for teens with questions

I value your insights so let me know what you think.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
It’s a pleasant looking site, and should work well for you. Two things…..

Your homepage photo is very, very big, so it makes your site load very slowly. It’s about twice as wide as it needs to be. I’m guessing it’s fresh from the digital camera and un-edited. The theme, as many do, squishes the photo down to fit in your design, a sort of fail-safe measure, so you may not be aware that it’s happening. You could edit this photo down to a width of 1068 pixels, and that would help a lot. And even though it currently “works”, remember that Google will dock you for a slow loading site. This principle can be kept in mind for any large photos.

The other thing is that you have several links “open in a new window”. That’s a big web no-no. I equate it to the salesman keeping his foot in the door. Rather than explain that, here’s an article about why that’s a mistake. (there are many others)

    Overall, nice job so far!

    Hey Dave!

I was concerned about the size of the photo too. I want it to fill the width of the container, but you’re right it’s cumbersome and needs fixed.

As far as the links opening in new windows…I’ve not heard that perspective before. I’m glad you brought it up!

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions! I really appreciate them!

    Sure thing, Justin!
All in all, your site looks a lot better than most, and I hope your activities go very well!
