I have a small client who would like to accept direct credit card payments on his online store using the WooCommerce plugin. I've looked a several payment platforms, but some are either confusing (PayPal) or require a monthly fee (PayPal Pro). Recently, I discovered Stripe, which looks pretty good.
Is anyone using Stripe and if so, how do you like it? Is the account setup similar to PayPal?
Thanks!

Being unfamiliar with Stripe, I just wanted to find out if it's a reliable and trustworthy company.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?December 2, 2016 at 8:46 am #196928RavenManiacParticipantAwesome! Good to know. Have you used this payment gateway before and are you, and/or your clients, happy with it? I'm assuming the setup is similar to PayPal, where they need to access and verify your bank account, correct?
December 2, 2016 at 9:17 am #196929Victor FontModeratorI haven't used Stripe personally. Most of my clients use Authorize.net, some use PayPal. I have some clients in Europe that use gateways specific to their countries. Once you start setting these up for your client, they're all similar in the way they work. There's nothing difficult about it.

Like most first time online store owners, this client is unsure of how much business he'll get through his store, so he's reluctant to commit to a $25 or $30/mo. subscription fee, which is why Stripe is so appealing.
December 2, 2016 at 10:14 am #196932Victor FontModeratorOne thing you need to be careful about with Stripe is multiple charges. I ordered some DVDs for friends as Christmas presents. The eCommerce site uses Stripe. The checkout kept timing out with an error that Stripe was busy, try again later. I tried four times over the course of the day. The last time the charge went through. When I checked my credit card statement, Stripe had charged my credit card 4 times, even though three of the transactions timed out. I don't know if this is something unique to Stripe, or if this could have happened to any payment gateway. I've never experienced that before.

Quite frankly, I would prefer that my client use Authorize.net or PayPal Pro, but as a small business he just can't justify the $360/yr.
