March 6, 2013 at 6:58 pm #24670latinadivaMemberHi Susan,
The Genesis for beginners is for all themes. I want to find a way to spruce up my Expose theme. Do you know of any sites for that? Thanks.
March 6, 2013 at 7:09 pm #24673SusanModeratorOther than the set-up for the Expose theme, I don't know of any child theme specific tutorials. If you let me know what you want to do, I can point you in the right direction (in terms of making changes to the layout, or colors, or anything else), but I need to know what you're looking to do.
March 6, 2013 at 7:17 pm #24682latinadivaMembermy site http://www.audacitymagazine.com looks horrible. It doesn't have a style.
#1 the left side isn't marginalized correctly.
#2 I don't like the box that says "you are here: home"
#3 the header is driving me nuts with the black and the film picture
that's to start off
🙁
March 6, 2013 at 7:40 pm #24690SusanModerator1. The left margin doesn't sit flush with the header. Is that what you are talking about? Some of your posts don't have featured images, which is why the boxes are different sizes. Also, keep note that post title length will also impact the size of the boxes.
2. The "You are here: home" are the breadcrumbs. To disable them, go to Genesis > Theme Settings > Breadcrumbs. Uncheck the box for breadcrumbs. Save settings.
3. You can replace the header on your hosting site (which I suggested in your other thread. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then upload a new header to your media library, grab the URL of the header, and then look for this in your stylesheet. Replace (images/header.png) with the URL of your image
/***** Header ********************/ #header { background: url(images/header.png); width: 960px; height: 100px; margin: 10px auto 0; -moz-box-shadow: 0 0 3px #BBBBBB; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 3px #BBBBBB; }
March 6, 2013 at 7:50 pm #24692latinadivaMemberWow! You are great at this. I fixed the bread crumbs as you suggested. The header part is more difficult because I don't understand the words you are saying.
While I understand that the boxes aren't the same size because of pics and length of title which I will be fixing this weekend, it is still not flush with the header. Is that repairable?
Thanks again. 🙂
Both of my sites are with this theme so once I get the hang of this one, I can do the other one.
March 6, 2013 at 8:16 pm #24699SusanModeratorWow! You are great at this.
Thank you - I'm no expert, but I've been hanging around here too long.
As for the header, if you feel comfortable, I'd be happy to log into your site and upload another header for you - shoot me an e-mail...
Are you talking about flush with the header to the left, or above the box? If you look at the demo site, you can see that the posts are indented slightly from both the right and left of the header. Technically, you could move it, but it would involve adjusting your functions file, and I don't think you want to go there just yet. 😉
March 6, 2013 at 9:08 pm #24717latinadivaMemberHmm Ok but my site still looks ugly. What can I do? http://www.audacitymagazine.com
Thank you again. I am about to go to sleep so I can't get the picture I want to put up there yet. May I show you tomorrow?
March 6, 2013 at 9:09 pm #24718SusanModeratorAbsolutely!
March 6, 2013 at 9:15 pm #24720latinadivaMemberUntil then, if you find any sites or links that can help me spruce up my site, please let me know. Thanks.

You can do it by editing the CSS, but it is a bit of a fiddle. I got halfway there with it then gave up because it was taking too long. But it is possible!
latinadiva: after you've uploaded your new header, why don't you look at adding a background colour? A light grey might work nicely.
