I'm trying to create a wide slideshow just under the navigation -
I've added and registered the widget, but it stays the width of the content area, rather than showing as full width like the home-bottom.widget area.
In functions.php:
genesis_register_sidebar( array(
'id' => 'feature',
'name' => __( 'Home - Feature', 'outreach' ),
'description' => __( 'This is the featured section of the Home page.', 'outreach' ),
) );in front-page.php:
function outreach_feature_widgets() {genesis_widget_area( 'feature', array(
'before' => '<div class="feature widget-area"><div class="wrap">',
'after' => '</div></div>',
) );}
Even when adding the appropriate css, it still won't span the width of the page.
See: http://ganeshdesignstudio.com/bdy-v1/
The top slide is in "feature" and below that it is in "home-top" widget areas.What am I missing or doing wrong?
Help is much appreciated.

May 10, 2014 at 10:39 am #104446Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberThat's because it's being added into your content area, which is only so wide. If you want it to be full width, you'll want to use your functions file to hook it in above that wrap. If you only want it on your home page, you'll need to add a conditional in, too. Luckily, there are a bunch of tutorials available on how to accomplish this!
Best,

May 10, 2014 at 10:45 am #104447asdwebMemberTHAT makes sense.
Now I need to find what tells me what I need to insert it below the navigation and above the content area...
but what doesn't make sense is the bottom widget area is wide and it's in the content area.

May 10, 2014 at 11:04 am #104451asdwebMemberI created a div just for the featured widget and couldn't get that isolated from the content area even when I used something like below:
It even showed up within the content area event though it's instructed to show before the content.
/** Add new widget on homepage in Genesis theme | basicwp.com/add-new-widget-genesis-homepage/ */
genesis_register_sidebar( array(
'id' => 'homepage-feature',
'name' => __( 'Homepage Feature', 'custom' ),
'description' => __( 'This is Homepage feature section', 'custom' ),
) );/** Top Homepage feature section */
add_action( 'genesis_before_content', 'news_homepage_feature', 9 );
function news_homepage_feature() {
if ( is_home() && is_active_sidebar( 'homepage-feature' ) ) {
echo '<div class="homepage-feature">';
dynamic_sidebar( 'homepage-feature' );
echo '</div><!-- end .homepage-feature -->';
}
}Slightly frustrated.
Much appreciating your support.

May 10, 2014 at 11:17 am #104453Lauren @ OnceCoupledMemberYou moved it out of the content area, but not outside of the div which is wrapping your content in a fixed width.
I would recommend installing Genesis Visual Hooks. That will show you which hooks are outside of your wrap, without having to go into your browser inspector and then compare that to your own knowledge of the hooks.

May 10, 2014 at 11:50 am #104455asdwebMemberWell, that's an awesome plugin!
After some fooling around, I got it to work!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
