HI all - I'm using the Outreach theme for a site and it looks good except when viewed with IE8. I'd rather ignore this, but my client works for a big corporation that locks down their network pretty good...and they don't upgrade browsers too often.
In particular,
- images in the footer are distorted
- links and navigation just don't work - they get large when selected and then don't go back to smaller size
- NextGEN Gallery images are distorted
I know there are things that can be fixes in the stylesheet to fix for IE but don't know how. Can anyone point me to any reference to explain how to do this with WordPress/Studiopress sites? Or suggest any fixes?
The site is daylesdoggrooming.com.

Yes, IE can often be the dumbest thing ever! ๐ I think there are still corporations around using IE6 because their intranets are using silly activeX code and such.It looks like you've run into a well-known IE8 bug. You have the following line in your CSS:
img { height: auto; max-width: 100%; }
IE8 freaks out with that max-width setting. I would try adding an additional line using "width", so it looks like this:
img { height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: auto; }
Now that's a VERY general setting, so definitely check other parts of the site to see if the images are still OK. Also, one can use "max-width: none;" but that may goof up responsiveness. You could also be more specific than the command above by adding a class or two.
I just noticed that the dog folks are only about 20 miles from me. I'm in Syracuse. ๐

Thanks for your help, I'm trying it and will see if it helps at all!Another thing I've seen is to add this in the head tag; but not sure where I might do it in this environment:
<!-- Use IE7 mode -->
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />It's nice to see someone local here!!

Yeah, there are various ways to deal with the IE8 problem. I'm a CSS geek, so that's where I always go first, and I also have done some jQuery fixes for nonsense things that IE and Safari do. But mostly I've gotten to the point where I write no CSS for particular browsers at all, and that's so nice.There are libraries that one can bring in to handle stuff like that automagically. In fact, if memory serves, Genesis 2 uses HTML5 Shiv to help IE8 and below, but it may not address that image problem, just HTML5 stuff.
I have one really stubborn client who insists on not upgrading his IE8, so I just shrug my shoulders and charge him more money for extra code that I write for just 1 user, essentially charging him an idiot tax. ๐
Yes, good to speak with someone nearby - if you'd like to keep in touch, feel free to drop me a line at my website. ๐
Cheers, Dave
