    Hi, I can’t figure out why I still have a bit of left and right padding on thumbnail captions, when I’ve already set those settings in css to 0 here:

    wp-caption {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #f9f6f2;
    border-style: solid;
    border-width: 1px;
    border-color: #bfbab6;
    padding-top: 0px;
    padding-bottom: 0px;
    padding-left: 0px;
    padding-right: 0px;

    Secondly, is there a way to have auto-downsizing thumbnails based on layout? At the main site view ( , the large thumbnail gets clipped. I’d rather not choose between layouts or thumbnail sizes.
    Alternatively, if there’s a way to use a single thumbnail size that auto-scales to the user content area width, that would be great! An upper limiter of at 570px width, say.

    Fixed the caption problem with code from here:

    Now I only have the thumbnails themselves to contend with :)

    Decided I really wanted borders, found a solution in google:

    .wp-caption {
            width: auto !important;

    After more googling, fixed that second problem. Overly large thumbnails with captions are now responsive. I feel a bit silly, but hopefully this thread will help others, if nothing else.

    .wp-caption-text {
    max-width: 98.5%;
    height: auto;
