Hello everyone! 🙂
My name is Paul. I'm only new here but have been experiencing some "issues" with the latest version of Prose. I am extremely sorry about this long post.
I would really be grateful for any advice or assistance people can offer. I looked and searched around the Net, this forum, contacted support etc.... still no resolution. (I have used version 1.0 of Prose - same site, same settings... no added CSS etc... everything out of the box... and did not experience these problems. )
I am running the latest version of Prose; a fresh install of Genesis + Prose. My plugins include Genesis Simple Edits, Prose Extras, Contact Form 7. That's it. My site is http://www.delantiglobal.com
My issues relate to site rendering in Firefox and also to responsiveness (or lack of) on mobile devices - as follows:
1. My header is 940 x 200 pixels. There is a white space on either side of the header. According to Studiopress support this is "normal". As I asked them, if it's normal for Prose then how come it did not happen in version 1.0? How come there was no white space on the sides of the header? I asked these things but they did not answer. Don't get me wrong. Support were lovely.. .and pleasant... but I mentioned a few times about the following issues and they basically suggested I'd have to pay to have this fixed. I am a bit frustrated over this. They just glossed over what I'd said - which I will repeat below...
I don't want white space either side. It looks absolutely terrible (IMO) for a regular header having space here.
My website previously used v1 of Prose and worked just fine as far as responsiveness goes. Same header, same settings. It looks great on iphone, ipad, android 4.3, Firefox and IE etc.
I started off with a clean WordPress install... and I imported the design settings into the new version of Prose for my site as well. With the latest version of Prose, as told my support (they checked).... it looks "mostly responsive" and they clearly expected me to be satisfied with this when I am not. After all who wants a "mostly responsive" site? They then suggested I change it to 970 wide.
I am confused. Prose is marketed as a fully responsive theme. That's certainly what it says on the box. No where can I see it says "mostly responsive". Again, to repeat, version 1.0 of Prose WAS responsive in every way with my site on lots of devices... out of the box. No code hacking,. No changes.
3. So I then changed my header to 970 x 200. This "fixed" the white space issue. But this does not answer the question WHY does 940 x 200 NOT work (that is my desired size) when it worked out of the box in version one of Prose?? Support did not seem to want to address this.
4. My second headache is again something simple which I support seem the have trouble grasping. I created a border around my menu bar. Same as I did in version one of Prose. No added CSS, no hacking. Just by specifying a 5px border width in design settings. That's it. The border appears just fine on the left hand side. However there is NO border (over run?) on the right hand side. This only happens in Firefox. I've tried resetting my cache, installing the latest version of Firefox. Same thing. Again... version 1.0 displayed perfectly in Firefox. Support said I'd have to hack the code the get this to work. My question: Again... this was NOT an issue with the older version of Prose. It displayed just fine. Why?? Surely this is an issue with this version of Prose right?
Am I right in assuming an obvious problem (bug) the way it is rendering in Firefox? The site views perfectly in IE. I told this to support. Their response was that I'd have to hack more code to get this to work. I again said I'd payed almost 100 dollars and why should I need to spend more when this is only a border setting I'd used. Why does not this border control work please?
Sorry about the long post. But this is terribly frustrating as this is a very important site and I guess I'm a bit disappointed.
Thankyou so very much and best regards to you all!
http://www.delantiglobal.comApril 8, 2014 at 6:29 pm #99232nutsandboltsMemberHi Paul,
I'm sorry you're having trouble getting the site to look the way you want. As you've learned, the support team is only able to provide support for technical problems (versus style/design problems) with the themes - otherwise they would drown in all the requests for customization help.
The body of the new Prose theme is 970px wide, while I believe the older version was 940px wide. That's why you're having trouble with your header image. As computer screens get wider, themes are designed on a wider grid; many of the other Genesis child themes use an 1140px grid, for example. So the newer version of Prose is just a little bit wider, and while the header image is staying centered, it's just not wide enough to cover the entire header area. If you could make a new, wider image, that would go a long way in solving the header issue.
Regarding your menu, an easy fix might be shortening a few of the menu items so they take up slightly less space. For example, if you changed "About Us" to "About" and "Contact Us" to "Contact," that might give the menu borders enough room to clear on both sides without running off the edge. Worth a try, anyway.
I hope this helps a little and makes better sense to you, but please let me know if this raises more questions and I'll do my best to help.

Thankyou most sincerely for responding to my desperate pleas for help, and for your suggestions! 🙂
Yes, I made a new header version (970px wide) and as I was saying it does look better and effectively removed the white space.
I also removed some menu items just now... the issue of the right hand side not displaying a border correctly still persists.
This only happens in Firefox and the newest version of Prose. It does not happen with FF and version 1.0 of Prose.
That's why is seems logical to me that this is a technical issue that support should be handling - but they don't seem to want to know anything about it 🙁
Although it might be a small thing - it is still a technical issue that is related to the way the theme renders out of the box. It limits flexibility. Just applying a 5px border setting to the menu bar does not work properly in FF. The setting is just not working as it is supposed to. Why do support suggest having to get a hack made for this myself when their inbuilt setting does not work correctly I wonder?
Thanks again Andrea and very best regards
Paul.April 8, 2014 at 6:53 pm #99243nutsandboltsMemberWell, to be fair, I can see both sides. I understand your frustration, but since a border is something you added as a customization and isn't "out of the box", I also see why support is reluctant to devote resources to the issue.
I'm seeing two borders - a 3px blue border on
#nav .wrap
and a 5px white border on#nav
- if I remove the white border in Firebug, the blue border *almost* shows up on the right side. With some tweaking, I'm sure the issue can be resolved, but it's hard to tell you exactly what to do without being able to see everything going on in your design settings.I will say that the Prose demo doesn't have that issue, so that leads me to believe that something has been changed in the design settings and/or custom CSS to cause the nav not to display correctly. See the demo here: http://demo.studiopress.com/prose/

Just an update. Thanks for support and Andrea for their input on this. Sorry to push the point but to prove that there IS in fact a bug (ie a technical issue) with Prose and Firefox rendering I have installed a fresh copy onto http://www.netincomerevolution.com. Don't worry about the header size just please look at the menu bar - more on this below.
Note I am not requesting styling changes from support. This has nothing to do with requesting custom changes; this is an issue purely based on using the inbuilt Prose settings (ie these settings are very simple and presumably there for a reason) not working properly ie using Firefox. Simply put: The theme is not rendering as it should do in Firefox - when a navbar border - of any size - is applied. This is a bug in anyone's language.
(You can see the same with http://www.delantiglobal.com actually but this one has a header 970px wide)
Note that I have NOT added or changed any CSS anywhere. These are stock standard installs. I've now done this via three PC's in three different locations. The result looks equally bad when viewed using Firefox.
Andrea - you mentioned the right hand side of the nav bar border looked fine in the demo prose theme. This is an illusion because of content area padding. Take this content area padding out and you will hopefully see what I mean about the corruption of the nav bar border. Or you can put it back in WITH the navbar border and it looks the same - bad. The reason that the Prose demo theme appears to have a menu bar border is purely that it has header padding set up.
This is entirely different than putting a border AROUND the menu bar using the inbuilt Prose settings. To prove this I would request that support:
1. Install a fresh copy of latest versions of Genesis and Prose
2. Install a header 970 x 200px.
3. Go into design settings/wrap content area. Make padding = 0, border = 0
4. Go into design settings/primary navigation. Make border = anything (say 2). Change link & background color to something dark so you can see the border.
5. View the site. Look at the right hand side of the nav bar. It looks like it's run off the page. Now if you are really keen - go back to step 1 and use version 1.0 of Prose for a fresh install. You will see everything looks perfect in Firefox - and on all devices I've used my sites are mobile responsive, unlike the latest version of Prose.
Thanks very much!
