I'm getting ready to build my first WordPress realtor website.
I see there are two Genesis options, AgentPress Pro and Winning Agent (3rd party). Is one better than the other and why? Also, I noticed that the Winning Agent theme uses IDX Integration. Is that a requirement of these real estate themes or can they pull information directly from the MLS? And finally, what are the benefits of IDX?
Thanks!
October 24, 2014 at 5:00 pm #129013IDX LeadsMemberThemes are not IDX data service providers. That's an industry unto itself. There are numerous Genesis-based themes that work well with various IDX providers' data services.
To summarize the benefits of IDX, it can be most simply be described as offering website visitors the whole inventory, instead of just your client's firm listings. Your client may or may not care to display other firm's listings if they are focused on presentation of their own listings. IDX appeals to agents, teams and firms that want to work with buyers, or both buyers and sellers, but it lacks appeal to firms that only represent sellers.
The same can be said for firms that specialize in property management. Just change the terminology used to lessee and lessor, or whatever it is called in the market your client is serving.

October 25, 2014 at 4:10 am #129073nazia08MemberI would go with Realtor.com . It is the most well known and has the most return for searches. The MLS listing is on there so other realtors can look at them and easily get infor or show them to you. Hope that helps.

Regardless of what your client's MLS offers, there is an industry of third-party IDX data service providers. Just google IDX for realtors and you will see what I am talking about. Most of these third-party providers offer plugins or other ways to integrate the IDX content into WordPress.

I know of nowhere else that @ravenmaniac could learn about the over 30 theme options for real estate versus the two that s/he initially was aware of for their first WordPress realtor website.
The contribution, significant or otherwise, is the only visual collection of Genesis themes (350+) that comes near being complete. It's used as a resource by Genesis devs and designers and theme authors (76+) alike. Authors get exposure whether they have an affiliate program or not; and free themes (50+) are always popular. The affiliate link aspect is covered by StudioPress as are the promotional links in the .sig of the many users that offer assistance to Genesis users for free or for fee.
If you've got a theme - or know of something that is not in my database - I'd be happy to know of it and list it.

Most of the bigger name IDX providers that have a WordPress plugin can be used with any WordPress theme. I tried WinningAgentPro and had a poor experience with the theme and their "official setup" services. I have now broadened my search to the vast world of great WordPress themes, into which I will incorporate IDX. So don't limit yourself to only searching for themes that call themselves real estate themes. That would be my input.
