Also, you may notice that my header now shows a “deleted / removed image” picture in place of my old header. This is because I deleted the picture from Photobucket. I didn’t think it would have any greater result, but was hoping it might magically make the problem go away. Now I just have an even uglier header!

Update for the resolution of this issue. The Genesis Simple Hooks plugin was installed, and that contained the header image code in Genesis_do_header.
