Hello All,
I am relatively close to re-launching my personal website. I could use some feedback if anyone has time:
http://whiteleydesignsdev.com/wd2016/
Still a few things to iron out. I'm not sold on the 'services' page, need to finish up the footer, and still need to do the responsive aspect of things, but I think it is to a point where I could get some feedback.
Much appreciated in advance!

Hi Matt Whiteley,
First of all, I would like to say that your site was looking great. I'm not pretty sure what you try to ask for a feedback on a particular page specifically but if it's on a design aspect, I just thought it looks pretty cool! Well done on the content area especially what you've done on the heading section which makes them quite elegant. One thing I just notice is the font used on sub-headings that probably makes quite distant a bit. Anyway, it's a minor stuff and definitely will not affect the overall quality! 🙂
Lastly, should you consider categorizing/tagging all of those items queried onto that page and whenever possible have a filter option for easy navigation.
Good luck into your upcoming re-launch website. 🙂
Cheers!

How did you set the top portion of the page - heading and preview text? Did you create some type of settings page or hard-code these items into the theme? I often use Advanced Custom Fields to attain settings from pages or posts. But I really don't know how to set custom settings for an archive.

Designing, Developing & Creating with WordPressMarch 1, 2016 at 8:23 pm #180397WhiteleyDesignsMemberHey Doug,
In this case I just hard-coded it directly in to the archive-project.php file. All the other page headers/sub-headers are controlled with custom fields using Advanced Custom Fields.
Typically, I would create an options page using ACF - something like this in the functions.php:
// Add ACF Options Page if( function_exists('acf_add_options_page') ) { acf_add_options_page(array( 'page_title' => 'Theme Options', 'menu_title' => 'Theme Options', 'menu_slug' => 'theme-options', 'capability' => 'edit_posts', 'position' => '4.1', 'icon_url' => 'dashicons-list-view', 'redirect' => false )); }
And then I would call the fields created with ACF in the archive-project.php file - something like this:
<?php $variable1 = get_field( 'acf_field_name', 'option' ); echo $variable1; ?>
or
<?php the_field( 'acf_field_name', 'option' ); ?>
I decided to hard code it simply because it's quicker and since I'll manage the site myself I don't really need to make sure it is really simple to update like I normally would for a client.
Cheers,
Matt

Designing, Developing & Creating with WordPressMarch 1, 2016 at 10:41 pm #180403Doug EdgingtonMemberThank you! I wasn't sure of a good way to handle it for client sites. It appears that the options page is an AFC Pro feature. I plan to purchase the Pro version soon. I have been using the free version.
I typically hard-code a lot of items on my personal site as well, since I am the only one who maintains it.Thanks again.

The other option would have been to create a page template and use a repeater field instead of a CPT ... but again, that would mean you'd need the PRO version of ACF.
Cheers,
Matt

Designing, Developing & Creating with WordPressMarch 2, 2016 at 1:46 pm #180456Doug EdgingtonMemberA one time fee is great. I went through and watched a few of the ACF Pro videos. I can't wait to try it out.
Thanks again.

- Use a caching mechanism so you can leverage your browser caching for faster page load times
- Remove the query strings from your themes and plugins for faster page load times
Nice and clean!
March 3, 2016 at 7:04 am #180526WhiteleyDesignsMemberHey Jason,
Thanks for the feedback. 1 & 2 will be addressed prior to go-live and were both on my list. #3 is new to me and a great tip - much appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt
