Hi there –  I’m keen to find out more information on 3rd party developers that sell Genesis child themes .

We’ve all come to love and trust Genesis and the StudioPress support forums – it’d be great to have a similar level of assurance now there’s a growing number of 3rd party developers getting into Genesis.

There’s a few out there now running their own sites and own support forums but would prefer  there to be a forum here that allows people to rate/rank different developers based on service and support provided. I know Studiopress have their own preferred developer list but there’s a few  that I’ve found online that appear very reputable  with awesome themes (some I’ve bought from also) that aren’t on the list. It’d be great to know a) why they aren’t  on the list and/OR b) be able to discuss other people’s experiences to avoid making a dodgy purchase.  Of course, having the 3rd party developers  to hang around on these forums would be awesome too.

I bought the Porche of WP frameworks . I  just want to make sure all the parts not made by Porche aren’t going to upset it’s purr:)

    Cheers – Catie

On the “old forum” there was a Marketplace Theme area. When SP changed to this new Community Forum area, all support for non-Studiopress developed themes (Marketplace) is handled by each respective theme developer. Me personally, I don’t think having what you describe would be beneficial to this particular Community Forum. Not to mention having to maintain a new area of “complaints.” When I select a non-SP theme, I just do my homework as I do even on selecting themes from Themeforest or any other developer – I read forums, do Google inquiries and read a lot of comments.

Yes. I know the history. And yes. I do my homework too of course. Loads. I’m not saying for it to be a ‘complaints/support ticket’ forum – more a discussion forum -the whole point of a forum. Keep it positive and call it “3rd Party developer endorsements” – a place for people to endorse 3rd party themes and hence an opportunity for other Genesis users to find out about awesome NEW theme developers out there they may not have discovered through their own research.

You mention yourself you ‘read forums’ when doing your homework. Wouldn’t one here be a great resource for you? I think it’d be awesome.  I know it’d be the first place I would go when searching for fresh new themes to use.

Well in your original statement you said, “rate/rank different developers based on service and support.” Which means developers could be ranked poorly. I just don’t think this is the place for that. If SP decides to do it, that’s fine. But I don’t thinks is appropriate to have that on here. That’s just my opinion. Maybe others will feel differently.

Yes. Personally, I would love to know, from forum members  that know and use Genesis day to day , if a few  have had good/bad/indifferent experiences before buying  from a new developer.  Who knows if they will – but I would love it! Cheers.
