Hello. I have a new site for an app download. On the homepage I have a button image that links to the iTunes download and one that links to the Google Play download. What’s the best way to track the number of outbound clicks?

Right now I have each button linking to a dummy redirect page, ex. domain.com/itunes-download that redirects to the iTunes store link. The redirect is done with the Yoast SEO plugin. I was hoping this would then show up as a visit in Google Analytics (# of visits to domain.com/itunes-download) but I’m not seeing them yet. Perhaps these dummy redirect pages don’t show up in GA.

Another way I thought is to have the buttons redirect to a goo.gl shortener which itself then redirects to the actual iTunes/Play download link (using this method instead of the buttons linking directly to the goo.gl will preserve the appearance of domain.com/itunes-download when hovering over the button).

Is there a better way? One that will allow me to see the clicks in Analytics?

    Thank you in advance.

You can use google analytics to do this, but it requires adding special jave to the header and append the links you want to track. Instructions from google can be found here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1136920?hl=en
