After some months work of getting introduced to wordpress, hosting and genesis magezine theme. I’m finally getting there where I want to be, I present, with moderate pride: http://www.dutchreview.com
The slider on the homepage is giving me some trouble. First of all, although the size is correct of most pictures (930x300/ custom) still there is a blank spot often in the slider. Second, is there some easy widget or trick to get the image correctly in there? Any other pointers to make the slider look more professional and such? fiddling around with the text box perhaps?
In general on the whole site I’m most worried about is it’s design, although it’s not persé ugly, I still need some more touches to make it look more elegant and smooth, more professional. If anybody has some tips, pointers or constructive criticism I would love to hear that!
March 19, 2013 at 6:51 pm #29537AnitaKeymasterAll of your images need to be at LEAST the same width as the slider setting or they should be landscape. Unfortunately, vertical images do not do well in horizontal sliders - so make sure your images are horizontal. If you can't, then you should crop your image to fit the area. That's the only thing that will make the slider look good. Also, the slider doesn't have the ability to "upsize" an image. So if your image is smaller than the slider width and height, you will have the white space.

Perhaps the solution from this topic will help?
March 24, 2013 at 10:20 am #30895AnitaKeymasterYou can certainly try that. But all of your images in your slider are different sizes both height and width. So that's why some have white space and others do not. Your featured image must be at LEAST the same height and width or LARGER of the slider in order for them to appear correctly.

March 24, 2013 at 11:18 am #30914AbuzerMemberAll images are at least the same width and length now, many of them larger. Still the problem occurs.
March 24, 2013 at 12:09 pm #30925AnitaKeymasterThe image with the white space at the bottom is 920 x 200 and all the others are 920 x 300. When the slider resizes the image - that's why - there is a 100px difference with that one image.

March 24, 2013 at 12:40 pm #30937AbuzerMemberStill don't get it. Resized that image, (peanutbutterfloor one) to 930x300 as well. All the others are similar or bigger. Changed the height of the slider to 200. Still the picture shows white space.
Thanks for the help and advice btw! Feels good knowing I'm not alone in this.April 2, 2013 at 8:05 am #32633AbuzerMemberFixed it! Resizing all featured pics to 920 width exactly and adding that stuff in the style.css made it happen. Check out the new result at my site. Shall I make the height somewhat bigger? Any other features I can add to the slider? Can't get the arrows to appear.
April 2, 2013 at 2:13 pm #32683AnitaKeymasterLooks great! Good job. I would actually have the text Bottom right instead of Top right. It's covering faces. As for the arrows, you do have the box check, correct? The height looks good. Keep in mind though when you add more pictures that you don't want to chop off a head or anything {smile}.
