Our dashboard was not showing a link to update Genesis, so we downloaded the 2.3.1 zip file and attempted a manual update.
Everything seemed to go as expected until we attempted to re-activate genesis and get the following error message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function add_term_meta() in /home1/smileyd/public_html/smiley-dog.com/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/functions/upgrade.php on line 168I can't log in to the WordPress Dashboard as a result. I do have ftp access and can start over that way if necessary.
This is all being done on a development site, so it's not a mission-critical hair-pulling issue. But I'm confused as to what I did wrong and how to fix it.
The steps followed for the manual upgrade were as follows:
- download Genesis 2.3.1 zip file from StudioPress
- logged into WordPress
- deactivated Genesis by choosing a non-Genesis theme
- deleted Genesis from theme options
- added new Genesis 2.3.1 theme from downloaded file
- activated new Genesis install
- stared at error message that appeared with a sinking feelingAnyone know why or what may have happened or have suggestions for a fix?
I've sent in a Support ticket but thought this forum may be faster…
http://smiley-dog.comSeptember 1, 2016 at 10:48 am #192476ChristophMemberHi,
sounds like you are running a WordPress version prior to 4.4.
If you rename the genesis theme folder (e.g. 12genesis34), WordPress will fall back to one of the twenty standard themes (if you still have one of them installed)
Disclaimer: This might cause a fatal error if you are using Genesis plugins that don't deactivate themselves when Genesis is not the active theme.
Update WordPress to 4.6,
rename the (12genesis34) theme folder back to genesis.
activate Genesis / your Genesis child theme.
September 1, 2016 at 11:43 am #192483smileyk9MemberYes, you are correct. The dev site is running WordPress 4.3.5.
Updating to 4.6 was to be the next step- just wanted to have the current version of Genesis running first to avoid… just this type of issue.
I am running some genesis plugins and don;t know if they deactivate themselves or not. I remember seeing instructions somewhere on how to deactivate plugins without access to the WP dashboard so I'll track that down if necessary.
Thanks so much for the suggestions to try. I'll be back in a bit to report progress or frustration.
September 1, 2016 at 11:45 am #192484smileyk9MemberWell, I'll be darned.
Cristoph, how DID you get so wise? That's all there was to it.
Thank you so much. Now I'm off to buy you a coffee.
And for the record, your response came in before receiving an acknowledgement or reply to the official support ticket.
Kudos to the Forum and especially to you!
