I simply hit the "activate" button on the notice that there was a new version of Genesis. My whole site is messed up. There are no "Home" "Home Middle" "Home Bottom" widget areas. My header is just gone. The widget in the header is gone. There are all these white boxes around each sidebar widget, etc, etc, etc...
1. Quick - How do I go back to the old version?
2. Fix - how do I get the newest version of Genesis without breaking my entire site?

This hasn't happened to anyone but me with the new version?
September 29, 2015 at 6:16 pm #166996TomParticipantThere have been some reports of occasional weirdness with the recent WP and Genesis upgrades but I haven't heard of anything quite like this - except for one case where a contractor did all of their customizations in the Genesis theme instead of a child theme and lost everything. (You didn't do this, did you?)
I'd suggest [after backing up everything first] uploading a fresh copy of the latest Genesis by FTP. If you still have problems, disable all plugins. If you still have problems .... possible Genesis problem. Could also be PHP/server issues; check with StudioPress via http://my.studiopress.com/help/

NO customization in Genesis I promise, I've seen way to many warnings about that over the last 3 years 🙂
The upgrade completely ignored my theme. I don't even know what it was that it left me with... For example, I use Magazine Pro and I've chosen the "Orange" color theme option. After the upgrade, my website changed to black and red... Strange stuff.
Of your suggestions, I'd lean towards a plugin issue. I have about 25 plugins (that drives me crazy to have so many, but I can't get the features I want with out them).
Thanks Tom for your suggestions. I'll start trying to figure it out.

What reason(s) do you have to not customize Genesis child themes?
